How is this now a conversation about bins and toilets?!
Sorry I hijacked it somewhat with a bugbear! Just on the "kitchen design" topic, we had a big drawer split into various bins. One of the big benefits of going "binless" is we converted the drawer and now it's very useful storage...

Looks really great Davesnave. I'm impressed with that.
Thanks. We just wanted it to look like a normal colour-washed bungalow of the type found in the area. The most annoying thing was that previous owners had spent considerably on 'improvements,' like the flat roof on the front and a sort of cross passage interior with corridors N-S and E-W. There were 7 exits to the outside plus a tin roof shack on one end where a cow had been milked. Everything had been constructed robustly, but none of it worked for us, so it had to go. In the end, only the bathroom retained its original dimensions. Despite having all those exits, we also had to create another before bricking up 3 of them!

7 exits!   I'm not a paranoid person but with 7 exits I'd worry which had been left open, especially as my oldest doesn't seem able to shut the front door properly!

I love the idea of different garden spaces at different times of day to escape to.  Maybe not 7 though.

When we came here some locals still didn't routinely lock their doors or cars. That's changed somewhat now, as there have been a few burglaries and some petty rifling through cars etc, but many residents have more than one good sized dog! We ran a small enterprise for 10 years using an honesty box and didn't find ourselves down on takings. People would often round-up and cancel out the odd pilferer.

Someone rifled through my car on the drive a couple of years ago.  I had three giant tubs of Flying Saucers in the boot - the whole family were surprised they hadn't
been taken - they were the only things worth taking!

    (I can't train my
husband to lock the car door but my
mum always taught me to remove valuables!)

  • I can take or leave flying saucers. A box of Freddos OTOH....

Can I ask a favour pls?  If you have an Instagram account and ever thought I've been helpful, would you please vote for Number 2 on this post?  I was doing alright organically but I'm up against someone with 14k followers and she's asked for votes.  Closes this evening.

This is my picture, we had a dinner party a couple of weeks ago and I made an effort with the table!
