    Hi Guys,
Just wondering what help, if any, you get with children with ASD / aspergers after they have been formally diagnosed (apart from any financial i.e DLA etc).
We are just going through the diagnosis process ourselves.

    Thanks in advance
it helps in there education, they get a statement of special needs if they need extra help

Maybe the person you are speaking of is on the ASD scale ... if I am near/around children it sends me into a meltdown. I'd be very very anxious living near to them. Unable to settle, or sleep, or do anything.

Kids are random, unpreditable, noisy - all things which I am affected by .... things/people which move randomly, the unpredictable and noise.

So that's a bit of a selfish attitude bearing in mind your ASD kids will grow up to be adults too with issues.

NO lol - there are some real miserable people out there who complain about everything! when you are trying to raise children with difficulties they put so much stress up on you that it makes life even harder - i too have aspergers and have difficulty in busy environments - some people just think they are naughty and the parents are inadequate for not controlling them.

Does anyone know who i go through to get the number of hours defined for my sons new school. He has just been givena statement and the school said that they need the 30 hours funding (which he should get). Do i have to contact the First team or the person who did his statement? I was just wondering as i did not think that the statement would be that specific about hours given in funding.

It didn't help when she called the police after DS had a particularly bad screaming session  (NB doesn't happen very often with him at home - he usually saves it for school lol). Frankly if she is on the spectrum (which I doubt - she's just a miserable old bat who now has moved onto having a "thing" about parking) then she could've bought a place in a retirement community where kids aren't allowed. I hardly think I should stop my children from playing in their own garden to accomodate her issues!

    hi guys.
just wondered if anyone on here was from belfast, and if so have heard of, or even used Barnardos "Forward Steps" programme!? My nephew is currently undergoing diagnosis for Aspergers & ADHD. They provide a Summer club specifically for preschool children with autism, which would be a godsend for my sister, as the Easter holidays showed that no routine makes life hell. I think my sister would go insane for 3 months with no definite routine for him.
If not, anyone know of any other summer shemes or clubs that would accept a 4 year old boy?
any help or advice greatly recieved.
    Carla-Farla!! :)

Barshamhillbilly - I just wrote 2 long messages that got wiped! Fingers crossed for this one!

After diagnosis me, my son's dad and someone from his school got to go on the Earlybirds Plus course, run in part by the National Autistic Society. It was great but you DO need a diagnosis. It's free too. There's other organisations out there which run things especially for ASD kids, so it's given us a passport into them - can't say we've approached them yet but I'm sure we will when there's fewer appointments to go to!

Have you already applied for DLA then, cos you don't need to wait for diagnosis.

    Good luck.
