On the subject of SATs do they actually know what stress they cause our special kids, mine came home with a letter yesterday after the saga of a 3c in science they have now discovered, and god knows how he only actually sat one of the papers, they have now had to average his mark over the year and so he has now benn given a 5, got 5 in maths and English to. His only concern was if these were good enough for a new football kit.
DD absolutely loves her new college away from DS, hope it lasts.
Senco phoned yesterday to say they had a memorial mass for DS friend that died during hols, DS had written a poem and read it out to whole church, apparently they were all in tears after, she wanted me to know how proud she was of him. It was really nice hearing something nice said for a change, pity about the circumstances though.
I just wish sometimes he could talk to people on a one to one basis , maybe this is asking to much but he has such confidence on a stage or in front of a crowd it is usually the other way about for people, when I ask he says he switches of and pretends no one is there and you cant do that with one person.
My husband is exactly the same which is why he is brilliant at teaching in front of a class of 35 (he was a schoolteacher for over 20 years) or preaching in front of a large congregation at church.. He says it's all theatre and you don't have to have a relationship with anyone like you do when it's one to one. (Although he can do one-to-one teaching, he much prefers a cast of thousands).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Hi, I'm just after a bit of advice and not sure where to post.
My 11 yr old (Aspergers Syndrome and Dyspraxia) has just started High School. He is statemented and gets 15hours a week additional support. Its been stipulated by physio and OT that school must cut back on recorded written work for my son. School suggested he could use a dictaphone to take notes or use a computer for homework and take the printed work back into school.
Now my question is, he does have access to a laptop (mine, but happy to share) but no printer, can I ask/claim for a printer....... and the dictaphone, can I do the same with that, or are these devices things that I have to provide??
I dont want to appear to be taking the p!ss with the LEA, but I just wondered. Its great they are saying he needs this and that..... but who provides it??
He's only been at school a week and all ready they have suggest CBT for him, thankfully his pychiatrist has no, as it requires reasoning skills. Now if we could reason with him, I wouldnt have half the problems I have with him.
lol @ Seven Day Weekend and the endless monologues........ they're great aren't they?? If I miss something on the tv I darent ask him what happened cos I would get the whole story in a report style.I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like youwould like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing

Oh, same here, with whole chunks of speech repeated verbatim.
And of course, the problem with the monologues is I am not the teeniest bit interested in either Warhammer armies or Jeremy Clarkson. But of course that doesn't register with an Aspie! He doesn't notice the glazed expression on my face.
Just to say, some good new,......my son's girlfriend, who also has Asperger's Syndrome and who has been unemployed for a couple of years since she dropped out of Uni, has heard today that she has an interview at a hotel, working in the kitchens.
It will do her the world of good if she gets this job, and will boost her confidence no end. Please keep everything crossed for her - it's on Monday.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

i think they should provide these things but dont hold your breath, ds was allowed to use a laptop but would not take it in to school at no time did they offer to pay, but i know one of his friends has one supplied by school for his dyspraxia i would askproud mum of son with aspergers0 -
DS1 used to be better at 'performing' than 1:1, now he's pretty much OK, at least in the situations in which I see him.
Not long after we moved here, he came along to a church talent evening, where he knew very few people, and did the most marvellous 'Gollum' speech from Lord of the Rings, complete with hand wringing and snivelling. Brilliant!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

We get constant chats about the time, clocks and numbers....also how many songs are on CDs and which number is the last song.
His favourite conversation opener is " I`m going to talk about some numbers that I like"
Hi
I haven't been here before but my son (5) probably has Asperger's but not officially diagnosed. First day of school today (yay!).
Noah's mummy, I am with you, all I hear about is the date/time/numbers as well. The thing is, all new people say how amazing he is, but to me it's so "normal" I hardly notice anymore. Also songs on a cd have to be played in the right order, no shuffling for us!

My dad has AS traits though. He doesn't even know about it though. He's in his 70s; now I know what's always been annoying/different about him, I can see it.0 -
wow ! I'd never even given the thought about my DS's birth, 15 minutes he took! I thought I'd got off lightly, although he scored really well right after birth.0
