Hi i am new here but my son who is turning 18 has AS.
I have read with interest your comments on birth, i was taken to hospital with signs of pre eclampsia and was induced once in the early afternoon and then again in the early hours of the morning .It was a traumatic birth but the one thing i remember was he never cried properly for months ,then when he started he never stopped until he was about 6.He was also a very poor feeder. always wondered if the induction and consequent birth may have had an effect on DS0 -
I know i'm kind of veering of subject here but do you remember me telling you months ago about my daughters obbession with David Tennant dr who and John Barrowman
Well on Friday i decided after thinking about it a great deal i would take my daughter to see Hamlet she loves the theater and david so i thought i would risk taking her even if i had to come home halfway through So of i go and queue for over 4hrs fri morning to get tickets which i eventually do (show been sold out for months so had to see if any returns available)When she came home from school that night i said we would drive to stratford which is about 40mis away and take a look at stage door to see if we could see anyone When we get there we take a walk and go inside the theater and i tell her i got tickets to which she jumped up and down screaming she was so excited
At the interval is the most amazing part my dd2 had made herself a t-shirt with hamlet wrote on it and funny looking ghost all in all a home made t-shirt that definatley not the best looking t-shirt in the world She finds things like drawing and stuff really difficult to do One of the ushers came over and asked if my daughter had a cardi she could put on as she wanted to borrow the t-shirt to show someone it Ten mins later usher came back signed by David Tennant To say my daughter was happy was under statement of the century
The thing was i really wanted to say was how proud i was of my daughter that night to sit through nearly 4hrs shakespeare to understand it and not want to get up and walk round or even run to the stage and tell him she loved him
Sometimes kids really do surprise you i was expecting to have to come home half way through or something but i'm chuffed to bits that for all her problems and things she really can do something so grown up0 -
Oh wow that is fantastic!!! I like David Tennant even more now!
My DS is the same, can shock people sometimes with his sensitivity and ability to be serious. Poor soul made himself ill with worry on friday cos one of his best friends is leaving to go to another school
VERY brief update cos i'm shattered due to impending (LATE ) arrival of new baby.
We have been allocated long term support from social services, and a lot more help for ds's other health problems. also SS are going to have a 'chat' with me after i have had the baby before i come home from hospital. I am dead worried but i just think they want to make sure they HAVE allocated me someone NAMED to handle our case.
I think DS may be ok with the baby but he's so unpredictable. he has seen that this is a GREAT opportunity and excuse to be able to play with baby toys and get away with itLuckily we know someone who had a baby last month, he saw her and went all soppy and grinned and said to me 'mummy so our baby will be like that then, but not brown i suppose?' bless him.
he says he will be nowhere to be seen when i am breastfeeding cos he thinks its 'yukky'Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I do have one friends whose child has a fascination with tears, especially babies crying real tears. Used to have to be watched like a hawk in case the child decided that they'd like to see baby crying. Has got a bit better now!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Just to say my son(mild AS, 28 years old) today phoned me to say that he didn't think he needed the extra set-top box one of the lodgers had ordered for the TV (lodger had since left), so he rang up Virgin Media himself and cancelled it.
Now, I know this doesn't seem like much, but the fact that he a)even thought about whether it was needed or not and b) organised himself enough to cancel it is a big leap forward.
Last week too, he took it upon himself to pay a little more rent as he had worked out his own budget and decided he could afford more. Usually this would be beyond him. (He lives in our UK house and only pays a small rent as he only has a part-time job).
He finally appears to be able to start doing the things other people take in their stride years earlier.
I'm SO pleased!!
Hope this gives some of you with young children hope that things CAN improve.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
hi seven day weekend, lovely to hear such a positive post, and deffinatly offers hope for us for the future, my twins are 13, and the thought of them ever living totally independant lives scares the life out of me to be honest, but someday they will learn independance, and i just have to hang on to that
shaz xenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
HI everyone,
Just popping in, not much to say but it is great to catch up and read about how well the other kids have been getting on. FA that is wonderful story about DT - and yes, i so remember, I guess that you wish the JB picture was facing the wall then now!!
Not much from this end. Had someone from the family centre here today about getting me on a parenting course as it seems to be the only way to access CAMHS services. Not sure what they can teach me, she said I was doing really well considering. She has noted about the swimming as I would love to have someone to be able to get Ryan into a pool without him screaming. We shall see. She is coming back next week. Home visit. But nothing else much really. Just busy, busy, as soon as the kids are gone to school I am working on the new website which looks great (even if I say so myself!!) it has been hours and hours in putting it together. I've not been shopping for weeks as I want to get it done, LOL!!
And he has started going to the thing at the gym, plus a new soft play has opened up with membership, £30 for 3 months, turn up and play anytime, so that would be a HUGE bonus for the kids. Especially now the weather is so bad.0 -
Well I am finally home with the new baby, a lovely litle girl called Florence. I was so worried about how DS1 would react and he has astounded me! He is completely baby mad
He has talked about her at school (probably incessantly at the wrong moment LOL) and is so gentle and careful with her. I felt awful though because we have long term support from social services my daughter had to be checked over before she left hospital, and they had to mark down on a diagram if there were any marks on her body, in case DS were to hurt her. DS REALLY impressed me this morning as he had wet the bed in the night but so as not to disturb me and his baby sister he sorted it all out by himself.
