    Happy birthday :o

I really hope this does turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Is this the first time you have had a formal diagnosis?

Good luck with your new employer. I think if they can see you have handled an incredibly difficult situation well, that will show them that you will be a great employee. You have been honest with them, and that should also go in your favour.

Formal diagnosis up to now is Dyslexia but all along this long journey they had been saying Autism/ASD/Aspergers. But today she said Autism and actually getting the autism team to step in now to give the right help. God the ed psych i could hug her at the moment only person really helping and being constructive and actually centering on george and what he needs not what is best for funding or saving others !!!!!!. As for the head wont speak to me at all have called the school to discuss.. she has made so many mistakes shes probably crapping herself now. I am taking this further no matter what happens. This cannot be allowed to happen to other kids and to make me this desperate and low and have such a huge impact emotionally physically and financially on my family. What goes around comes around!! shes so gonna get it through the legal system.

You know in a very short time you will look back on this day as been a GOOD day as it was the day you got Goerge out of a totally unsuitable school and got the EP working towards the RIGHT provision for him and towards the sort of help you need.
I'm not saying it'll be all easy from this point on but you're now going to be able to access the correct resouces and as he has been permanently excluded the LEA will have to find a SUITABLE provision-even if it is out of catchment area or not state funded.
    I know it doesn't feel like it but it's a HAPPY birthday-I promise :)

I feel a bit left out sometimes on this thread because we're at a different point to most as my DS is 16 and we're handling different challenges 10 years after diagnosis.
Last week I was lower than I've been in years-I just sat and cried. DS's school had already told me he couldn't stay for A-levels-which I actually agree with-they are too informal in the 6th form. He needs more structure but then discovered the new SENCO who has known him for 6 weeks told Connexions special needs advisor that she believes he couldn't handle ANY 6th form. Luckilly she passed that little gem on. After 24 hours of crying and feeling sorry for myself I got angry. I know what he is and isn't capable of and got on the phone.
Result was a provisional offer of a place at 6th form without them seeing him-however I then rang the SENCO there and asked if she would see us and assess him as I wanted to be sure it was a suitable placement. I'd met her before when we moved DS in year 8 and had been impressed and the school was a very close 2nd choice to send him (vastly smaller classes at the other was the decider). Wow she so impressed me again-talked it all through-explained loads of stuff to DS-suggested he visits the school after GCSEs and she'll organize a couple of buddies to take him around and get used to the school so in September it isn't all brand new and scary, talked about giving him a map-suggested after school activities he could be a part of.
I do have 2 other possibilities to see but at this point I can't see either coming close-and this is the closest to our home too.
I have NOT rung his present school's SENCO yet-I'll bide my time as I'm still angry with her-and want to see if she shares this opinion of his futyre with me or doesn't say a word GRRRR Predicted As and Bs and she thinks he can't do A levels. He sooooo can-with the right support.
We're off to check out an Aspergers youth club tonight-that should be interesting :) I'll report back.

Sarah1975 - OMG. First off I am so pleased you told your new employer what is going on and the let you take your son, I welled up, that just made me feel so happy. The others are riht in that you will look back on this day and realise it is the day that will get George what he needs for his eduction, the Ed Pshyc sounds great and wonderful you have her support. Is sheanything to do with the school you want George to go to? This might be the silver lining as you say. Everything crossed, please let us know. And good for you in taking it further, it is the very least you should be doing!!

Duchy, sorry you feel left out, i cansee how with us all having 'babies' and your son being older. What will happen to his education now, can he do on the job training, sorry I missed what he wanted to do. Would college be better than 6th form maybe? Let us know how the youth club goes, what a wonderful thing to have!!

Annie H, I would goand see your GP anyhow, whatdo you have to lose, it is all a waiting game as you have probably established from our posts, the worst that can happen is that your son will get reffered to the same place via the GP orthe Ed Phsyc but will get into the systm much quicker rather than waiting another 4 weeks!! Good luck and keep us updated.

The other good news is reading on how many schools are coming to terms with ASD (excpet yours Sarah, they nee a good slap!!) but I think that from the comments school are gettng better with dealing with our childrens problems.

The school have been great with Ryan, they have established he has a routine and is happy as long as that is ahered to, he used to go in and hideunder the table, now he goes in and tells the other kids off if they get the toys out and do not get their name and a book before registration!! LOL!!

    PS. Happy Birthday xx

Happy birthday Sarah1975, and what a good employer to have done that for you.

Duchy do not feel left out, as you have an older child it helps me no end to see where things may be going for DS as he gets older.

I spoke to my son's teacher again this morning and she said that it might take as long as 4 weeks. I also asked her if I should be doing anything else (eg go to the GP) in the meantime and she said that what normally happens is the EP comes in first and then if she thinks there is a problem, they will refer my son on. Is this right?
My emphasis, but TBH, 4 weeks sounds reasonably fast to me, given what other people go through. I know it might seem like a lifetime if things aren't going so well, but I'd only worry if 4 weeks turned to 6, and then to 2 months and so on, with them still saying "4 weeks".

And I think if that is what the school is saying, and you're happy that they're taking account of your son's needs and trying to meet them, I would run with it.

If it drags on, THEN I'd go the GP and ask about him referring on, but an EP specialises in going into schools and looking at children to see if there are problems, whereas this is highly unlikely to be your GP's specialism.

Don't feel left out, duchy, please, you know there are a few of us with older children around, and in a way the principles never change: your son might still have a statement for 6th form, or at least extra help, and that SENCO you've found sounds lovely, a real gem.

Hey Duchy  please don't feel left out. Although your son is older, and that brings a different set of problems, the emotions you go through as a parent are the same, and (although this doesn't really benefit you) it's lovely to have people on here with older children, because you have overcome many of the things we are struggling with.

I have got through several crisis moments purely because of your advice - I really think you are a brilliant Mum to Josh, and he's lucky to have you (and so are we). :)

Thank you for all your love & support 2 i couldnt have got through it without you, total rollercoaster from the moment i got up :( Massive plus employer has been so good). Basically has given me the keys and is letting me come and go as i need too, my job is running the office anyway so thats great. I rang up the IVA company dealing with my debts and and updated them on my situation and they have agreed for me to make lower payments for now, and that im not breaking terms of the iva because all of this is completely out of my control rather than me just messing up and purely not paying. Just need to do a new income and expenditure to re-submit to my creditors, but she knows what im dealing with so has said she will do it and email me to check it out before asking for new creditors meeting;) . today (wednesday)morning 9am i have ed psych comming to see me at home and to do more work with george omggggggggggggg ive drank far too much wine tonight its now 322 am ive worken up with headache from hell and mouth like bottom of a birdcage:rolleyes:  I dont usually drink but me and my friend got through 3 bottles of red and a chinese(birthday treat) :D :rotfl: :T God i hope george has a good day i get the feeling im gonna be fragile later
