Hope its ok to post on here
But just thought I would share my day with you guys..
My 10 year old son was diagnosed 2 years ago with AS. In September we asked the LEA to do a full Stat. Assessment.....they came back with a Note in Lieu and enhanced provision, 10 hours a week......it all sounded great.
I had a meeting with the LEA today and they didnt half sell the Note in Lieu, told us how flexible it was and how they can get in more help if needed and how we would have an much involvement with it at the high school......however, they failed to tell us one important part.....that the hours can be reduced without our consent or knowledge (its not a legal document) if the school doenst feel he needs the extra help.
Hmmm, I dont think so!! So its appeal all the way now!
Wish us luck :TI also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like youwould like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing

DS has been excluded again. Got the call at lunchtime and he was so upset when we got there. His trigger was that the girl who he adores and classes as his best friend has had enough of his ways and told him she didn’t want to play with him anymore so he exploded. He had calmed down by the time I got there but when he saw me he got upset again. Took a good hour to get him to calm down and when we got home I broke it to him that he had been excluded again and he was so upset. School have just rung as the Head wants to call a meeting tomorrow. I have an awful feeling they want to exclude him for longer than 5 days which will mean he has to have full time education somewhere but if he’s not going to cope at his normal mainstream school he certainly won’t cope at a different mainstream one!! We have the results of his ADOS screening tomorrow too. Just when I think we’re on an even road it goes all bumpy again. I’m exhausted with it. My poor DS must be too.0

hello again!
i posted a couple of months ago about my son and how i was desperate for a diagnosis/support.
i just wanted to share that last week he was finally diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and depression.
i finally feel someone has listened and i wasnt going mad. My son is 16 now and has lost his whole education. i have spent years trying to get the right support in place - he doesnt have a statement yet cannot manage at school whatsoever.
its a relief but also sad.
duchy, it sounds like we are going through similar Transitions issues....
sorry i havent posted for ages but life has been hard - as i am sure lots of you will agree to!!!0 -
I agree dk67, the system certainly does face us parents again and again with 'it's your fault/he's just naughty/does he eat junk food/calm down...etc.'
i think more consideration has to be given to the stress placed on parents. I have felt very low at times because of the difficulties my son has, but at least now we have something concrete - 'evidence' from professionals we can make progress.
We had parents evening yesterday and luckily my DS's teacher really understands my son and 'works with him' Today he proudly let me know that she let him choose an activity for the class and tell everyone what to do. he tends to take over you see and that way I suppose she is trying to let him see it CAn happen just not all the time!
Off to an assessment centre to be videoed on Tuesday to see if the professionals can pick up any more 'clues' from his behaviour. One more step closer to a diagnosis of something!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Hi everyone,
i am sorry to hear of the problems you seem to be having at the moment and wanted to send some big hugs (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))
Went to see doc at the CDU on Wednesday, Ryan is developing as she should be as a 4 year old but there are the AS issues to deal with, some that the doc saw again (thank goodness, always worry that they will come over as 'normal') so now it is just waiting again for CAMHS. Ryan wanted the door opening and started babbling in asking for it ad the doc had to ask him 3 times wha he wanted and then he answered. Will have to wait and sii. I did smile though, one of the questions was 'how many finers do you have' doc was expecting an answer of 10..... he was surprised when Ryan told him 8 though!! I did chuckle, the doc gave a laugh and said 'yes, of course, you have 8 fingers' I think he was surprised!!0 -
I just heard someone on radio 4, she has written a book called 'Not stupid' which is about aspergers. The programme, loose ends I think, may be on the r4 website to listen again. bit pressed for time now but i will have a look laterMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

it's a shame really, schools used to focus on social interaction and now theres so much pressure, tests tests tests. My poor DS is worried he isnt 'good enough' cos he's getting level 2's in the sats when his verbal IQ is so high. His teacher is lovely and understands that he's sort of tied by a bungee rope, verbally he wants to run then because he is so muddled when it comes to 'performing...'ping, splat' ds is back to square one. He just can NOT do the work and it shoudl not be so much about hat. We need nice kind helpful people in sociaty, all children not just the special needs ones!!! i wish scjools taught social skills!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
