Shell energy broadband - any feedback from recent joiners ?

Switched in OK. Received the router a few days before, WiFi 5 so about as good as you get for a "free" ISP router.
Cutover quite late, about 10.30pm on the scheduled day.
Speed as expected with an 80/20 sync as with TalkTalk previously.
Website gives handy connection and data usage info.
Too early to say if the MSE bill credit will come through!1 -
Wanted to leave a review as most are negative and I was a bit worried about using Shell but I wanted a 12 month contract.
So far no issues after about 1 month. Good speed 72Mbps, it doesn't get much better than that. I wanted to use my own hardware and I phoned up and got the password etc no problems. I use for WFH and no issues, VPN, teams etc.1 -
The reliability, excluding their admin errors, is very good.
Since December 2019 only three serious outages, on average once a month for less than 30 seconds.
If I were the regulator I would legislate so ALL ISPs had to send a copy of the disconnection log with the monthly invoices.Rob0 -
pollarj I'm simply interested, you mention using your own hardware. I'm simply interested, is that 100% only your hardware? When I did that with Shell ADSL 'magicly' my speeds halved, what is your experience please?pollarj said:Wanted to leave a review as most are negative and I was a bit worried about using Shell but I wanted a 12 month contract.

Yes 100% my own hardware. I have a zyxel rouer used as modem only and TP link mesh system. I never used the Shell hardware so can't compare speeds but 72Mbps is better than estimated.james_smitha said:

Worth mentioning the shell web site won't report your speed if you don't use their hardware "We've not been able to check your broadband speed because we can't see your router"pollarj said:

i signed up with Shell from the MSE link in February for the Superfast fibre £22.99 a month and £100 cashback after 3 months.I got the cashback in my latest bill without having to ask them, so am happy with Shell, thank you MSE.0

I also got the £100 credit, so far a faultless service.
I use a old Plusnet router so l can't comment on the Shell one I do get max speed.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Have finally left shell - a horrible experience. It would take too long to list all the issues, but the one thing I want to point out for customers is this: following ongoing problems shell offered 1 months rebate, as they thought everything was now sorted. It wasn't and then they cutoff my service! When service was restored and I complained the response was as you accepted the rebate it covers the problems. So be aware if offered a rebate as shell uses it as a "get out of jail free card".

Signed up for £21.99/month however my first full invoice is for £22.00/month. Speaking with the customer service, this appears to be a systemic failure on their part and mentioned something about VAT calculation. They're fixing my bill. Whilst it's only 12p/year for one customer, I do wonder if Shell's accounting software has a hole in it.0
