  • Happy tuesday, while the kids are watching tv and my partner is sleeping I thought I'd do a quick update.

The rain has finally stopped so today we'll be out and about - just got to keep an eye on the spending. I'm in what I would term the "danger zone". If I am doing well with my credit card spending for the month upto this point it can quickly go down hill by thinking I can get this and that and then I am doomed for the rest of the month. So this month I am really trying to get past this point without going down this spending route. I've seen this morning that M&S have a sale on and I really want a mirror for my living room. Its £15 something at the sale price. Sale ends 31st so I'll see how I get on being tight mum and hopefully can afford this.

  • Hello friday night, I was meaning to update the diary earlier today but my 3 year old has turned into a little ball of fire!

Ok so my last diary I was trying to keep a close eye on the spending, well half term and my good intentions don't marry up. I haven't gone crazy but the bit of activity we have done has had an impact. So I have decided I am going to limit my spending on my credit card to £350 and once this has gone, I have to pay for the rest in cash. With this in mind I have worked out all my travel fares which has to go on my credit card and I'm left with £35 to the 13th of Nov so lets see how long that lasts! Next week I am planning on no spend days! certainly need them. I do have overtime shift though.

On a negative! I'm angry with myself for getting a fraud ebay transaction and suspect because of the nature of it I wont get my money back grrrrr! I'm gutted as the item itself was for sale on Amazon but would have paid delivery charges which I was trying to avoid! Its now cost me twice!! Gutted doesn't cut it.

I've also been contacted by Inland Revenue with a small tax bill which I knew was coming at some point has arrived so my maturing reg saver will be a bit depleted!

I was paid on thursday so managed to chip a bit off the debts. I was paid a bit extra for the overtime shifts which is fab and I currently have a little cash sitting in my account which is nice.

I have also updated my spreadsheet savings target to £25k (this is excluding my savings) as I am near 20k which it was previously. I have debt though which wipes out a lot of this if I was to suddenly pay off all my all debts. But my long term aim is to save for a deposit so I keep this figure to keep me motivated.

So all in all some negative crap and some positive stuff... lets try and focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative.

  • Hello freeezing monday! I've made it to nearly 4pm and not yet spent a penny so I'm on for a no spend day! yipeee! This is a rarity for me!

So nothing that exciting happened over the weekend, just the usual work, work and yet more work. It was ok. Tomorrow is yet another overtime day which is good. I need the cash.

I'm in a fairly good mood today although it looks like my "not yet ex hubby" can finally get a mortgage to buy me out so divorce proceedings will start. We are still good friends and amicable for the kids but I always get a bit of sadness about my old house and will be sad to see it finally go but I also don't believe in living in the past. His current girlfriend and her two girls will move into the house with him, wedding bells etc. So it looks like 2020 will definitely be bringing a new chapter to my life. I wonder what else it will bring....

  • Happy Halloween!

Tonight we joined the masses and went trick & treating with the kids... lots of fun and cute photos too!

On the finances front I'm keeping a good tab on my spending atm. I bought this weeks food shop in cash, bought one christmas present for my eldest - some books to hopefully encourage him to read a bit more.

The Nationwide reg saver matured today so plan is to drip feed this into new M&S reg saver and current First Direct reg saver. I'm still moving forward slowly with the studying too so all in all a good week so far.

  • Hello Wednesday,

I've not posted for a few days because I have been busy with work etc and I also had sad news that my elderly grandad passed away. He was 91, had a wonderful life and passed away from old age. I decided I wanted to visit my mum back in Yorkshire and today was the earliest I could make the journey. I got up middle of the night, got into kings X, 4 mins to go got my butt on the train seat to be told the trains were delayed because of someone being hit by a train. Long delays sat on train, train terminates at Selby not Hull and I just got upset, crying quietly to my partner on the telephone. Life is so cruel at times. My poor mum is now meeting me in Selby, we get a short time together before I've got to endure more delays going back.

  • Well its friday and what can I say, Its been a crap week in the hive. I think the news of my grandad has put me in a gloomy mood this week which I guess is to be expected. I've achieved my three days of work and done a bit of this and that but generally feel like I haven't achieved much this week apart from catching up with the ironing & cleaning lol! It wasn't helped by the crap train journey on weds and travel hangover on thursday (yes seriously I felt like I had a hangover!) and today to rid me of my guilts I spent most of the day cleaning and binge watching Netfliks! Bad I know!

Anyway I am in the mood to pull myself out of my gloom and next week vow to get back into study and exercise and thinking about job hunting again...

Next week my credit card rolls on to new month and I can review my previous months spending.

Don't beat yourself up for this week, you are grieving the loss of your Grandad and frustrated by your problem train trip.
Dehydration probably was a major contributor to your travel hangover.
