  • 4853Emma - you are right. I video talked to them through what's app yesterday morning on one of my breaks and that was great. I can see they have loved their holiday.

I've decided to challenge myself and see how far I can get on my remaining balance. Instead of getting the train home from work I've decided to get the bus. It's a lot longer but saves me £1.30 each working day.. i am currently working sat and sun so taking this into account I now have £20.28 to last till the 13th. I have lots of vegetables in the house as I get Oddbox every fortnight. My man bee and kid bees do like their meat so it'll be interesting how to make this challenge work. Tomorrow I'm going to go through the freezer and cupboards and put together a list of what we have in and work out a plan. Eldest bee starts at school on weds and he will be taking a packed lunch so something else to factor in.

I'm pleased my exercise bike is now up and running. When my previous house was renovated we lost the bolt for the seat post. Anyway man bee has managed to find me a suitable bolt (we've tried a few!) to use. I need to get back to using it along with my jogging. My mini holiday excesses are showing on the scales which I'm not happy about.

My kids fly home this morning I'm off to dig out the flight details and track as much of the flight as I can. It's day 2 of work for me!

  • Happy 2nd September, well its only little things but this weekend I sacrificed a longer commute home from work using the bus rather than the tube. It's saved a small £2.60 but when equated to buying sausages, potatoes and 4 bananas its shows that a little can count for a lot! So my shopping bill at Lidl was £3.07 so I'm happy to report I still have £17.21 in the kitty for 12 days until my credit card changes month. Do not like living like this but at least I feel I am doing something rather than nothing. I'm also waiting to find out if I qualify for a return to work course for mums (I am MEGA hoping so! I really need this) and am trying to apply for another apprenticeship program. This morning I went for a jog and ventured onto podcasts, this was great fun.

  • Well I am sat here at 1pm typing away at my pc and quite surprised at what I am upto! Long story short circumstances meant I am having to take a change of career as the location and long hours just not going to work with my kids. I also experienced some not nice stuff and its been difficult. Anyway like a bolt out of the blue I am called from a recruitment agency this morning about a role which may be doable. So I am sat here updating a CV I'd shelved. The job is paying well and would give me the much needed job security I need. So wish me luck!

I applied for a local apprenticeship which is completely different from what I have done before but is local and gets me fuzzy. I have also heard from a potential opportunity to do some adhoc admin work from home as a contractor. So actually quite a positive morning so far on the job front. I just need my luck to finally change.

My eldest was being sick this morning so he will be having a delayed start to school. He'll be going in on thursday now instead of Weds.

  • Happy 4th September :0

Today has been a lovely day of firsts! My eldest started back in YR3 at school, we had the home visit for youngest for his nursery place. They came with his nursery book bag and a bookstart book which went down a treat. Then youngest bee had his first preschool swimming lesson. It didn't go too well tbh, he was tired, hungry and not in the pool with mummy que lots of tears but he had a go so I can't ask any more of him.

On the spending front I'm now officially over my allotted budget for the month. I had to go food shopping which came to £20.84 and return on the bus for swimming £3. I just got to be careful to keep overspends to a minimum. Although I don't particularly like my current job I am going to see if I can get an extra shift a week towards end of sept. I just want to see how young bee 2 takes to nursery first. If he is happy and settled I'll ask for extra but if not we will take it as it comes. He has been with me solidly so I cant call this one.

  • Happy Friday :)

While the kids are still sleeping I'm up and time to update the diary - in true mummy form I was broken off from writing my diary and now the kids are awake!.

I am now at conflict, I really need to rein in the spending but having a partner that doesn't cook and two kids to them the kitchen cupboards are bare. I have in honesty being using up whats in the freezer and basically unless its not already ready to be heated up my partner just wont think creatively. I'm better at using up what we have in. Yesterday was a classic - he was looking after the kids for me as I volunteer on a thursday. He rung me up to announce we were going out for pizza. He is happy to pay but said as there was no food in the house so the easiest is eating out. So out we went and i must say was lovely and enjoyed a cheeky glass of prosecco! Anyway I am going to have to get some food in. My youngest started his pre-school swimming class this week. It went as bad as expected. He is used to swimming lessons with me and I wasn't in the pool so hence upset toddler and awful to watch but I know that once he is settled in his new surroundings he will rock it. He does get cold in the water so I need to buy a neoprene wet suit to make him warmer. Quick look on google and i'm looking at £20 give or take. Yuk yet another spend i really don't need :(

I've applied for a couple of jobs in my field of expertise which I wasn't expecting to do and one more I am working on the covering letter - this has been a nice confidence boost. Studying hasn't really happened this week - feeling mega guilty. Need to cook the books next week.

I have a big list of job related tasks to do which I am hoping will help with getting a better job and re-engaging a career of which I have no clue! A career coach is on the wishlist. I can but dream lol.

  • This is a late diary entry for me but life is certainly chucking lemons at me right now :( An opportunity at work to swap departments on the run upto christmas and earn much needed funds has been over ruled. I'm just so sad all time and trying really hard to overcome my barriers yet I can't seem to do it. To say I have been struggling with bouts of depression and anxiety is being honest with myself. I wanted this diary to be a true reflection of what is going on and I have pulled myself through a tough summer where I wasn't the best to live with because of my associated money worries. Anyway instead of eating crappy food and drinking alcohol I am trying to be kinder to my body and so tonight was fresh chicken and noodle soup with an super fruit smoothie. This was delicious. Tomorrow I got to go back to work again and act as nothing happened. Its hard being brave, but brave I must be.

  • Hi. Have you bought a suit for swimming? Maybe try ebay for a second hand one, I am sure my sister got hers from there.

Keep going. Relish the fact that your children have a good relationship with both parents. It's so hard to put differences aside to maintain these.

If the kids are classed as living at your ex's does this mean you can't claim child benefit/ctc for them? This seems a bit unfair, especially if they are with you more.

Anyway, keep on plodding, I am with you on the poor food choices, something I am trying to work hard on too

keep going - its a long old slog and hard to sustain especially when life is against you. but even if you have to slow down your DF journey while you cope its key not to forget it entirely - just plodding along with a pause for breath now and then will get you there
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

  • Hello Tuesday,

Thank you beanielou, Drawingaline and mark88man for your kind words of encouragement. After a crappy time at work I enjoyed a nice meal with my partner but I was still not great as my saturday post said. On sunday I went back into work and did my shift and organised an extra overtime shift. I am trying to put it behind me but still feel bitter.

Yesterday was a much more positive day, I had a zoom interview which was a new experience for me but worked well. I was pleased with my answers and will find out at the end of the week if I was successful. This was for a virtual assistant role which would work perfectly around the school and working from home a much needed bonus.

There is another company potentially with a role - they have my CV so we will see. The job is a bit too far tbh. I'd prefer something local even if it is less money, but considering my financial situation im a bit stuck. grrrr

Today is another busy day. 3 days to new credit card month and need to do some food shopping. I'll update my figures later in the week.
