We bought a new van only it wasn't new!

Have they offered to send it back to the factory? As I understood it all that was offered was to let the dealer do another bodge that will look OK for a few months.
Firstly we dont know if the Ford dealer did the repairs. I suspect they were done in transport.
Secondly, it doesnt have to go back to the factory to be repaired to factory standards, and to be warranted by Ford.0 -
but it will devalue the van as the owner if asked has it been damaged/repaired will have to answer "yes" when the time comes to sell or trade.0

Factory bodywork is superior to main dealer bodged bodywork. In a different league.
Spreading more misinformation.
Thats simply not true.
I've seen some factory finishes that are frankly naff, and i've seen Approved body repairs that are undetectable.
Once again, you are attempting to set an expectation that the supplier is under no obligation to meet, nor are they likely to agree to it, nor logistically could or should they.
Shipping the van back to Spain to respray a couple of panels? You're having a laugh frankly.0 -

I've never yet been asked that come trade in. The dealer will examine the car and if the paintwork is to an acceptable standard, they wont make any price adjustment. Apart from anything - a dealer will know a seller may not tell the truth, so they'll make their own judgement. They'll be interested only in what is required to be spent to make the car retail quality (subject to age)
Ford are going to make it to an acceptable standard.
I would say most vans are going to have some paintwork over their lifespan. Most i see have had more hits than the Beatles.
I would say an easy 50% of vehicles being resold have had paintwork at some point.
If it was being sold to a private seller the answer would be "it had two panels resprayed by Ford as they werent to factory standard".
We sold our Merc back to the Merc main dealer last year with a few stonechips and a couple of minor alloy wheel scuffs. They resprayed the front bumper, bonnet, two wings and had all four alloys refurbed so they all matched. And that was on a £32K car sitting on a main dealer forecourt.0 -

It's already been resprayed to 'factory standards'. However the resprayed bit rusted within a few months where the real factory finish didn't. Obviously someone spraying to 'factory standards' is nowhere near the quality of paintwork sprayed at the factory.0

And, no, it hasn't been resprayed to any kind of acceptable standard. Ford accept this, if you bother reading what the OP has actually written, instead of just making things up to fit your own bizarre misconceptions.0 -
So we are able to trust ford to build a van once but not to rebuild it. Interesting.0
