We bought a new van only it wasn't new!

Imagine buying a new TV and getting it home and finding the screen hanging off. You take it back to the shop "oh yes this TV was smashed up in transit. We put a new screen in. It's only hanging out because we haven't glued it in properly. We'll stick it back with some more glue and you can pick it up tomorrow.". I think most people would say "that's unacceptable. I'll have a new TV ."0

Imagine buying a brand new house and one of the kitchen doors falls off on the first day .................0

The kitchen door would be fine replaced. The van and TV will never be as good as new. The repair COULD be as good as new but it's highly unlikely.0

In your example above, the consumer doesn't have to accept a repair and they can insist on a full refund (but the retailer can also insist that the purchaser proves that the fault existed when they purchased the TV and wasn't caused by misuse).
The OP's case is totally different as they have had the van for a fair while so the dealer is totally within their rights to opt to cary out a repair.0 -

Muddying the waters as usual, i see.
Lets adjust that to the reality of the O/Ps situation.- The O/P got the TV in what appeared to be in perfect condition.
- Some considerable time later bezel drops off and it becomes apparent there was a repair done to it before purchase.
- As its now used, the supplier offers to make good the repair to factory standards or offers to buy it back, allowing for the fact its now used and the O/P has had considerable use from it.
The point is, the seller is not obliged in the O/Ps situation some considerably time down the line to buy back the vehicle for the price the buyer paid for it, nor are they obliged to replace it with a brand new one. They are however, obliged to make good the repair, which they are doing.0 -
Have they offered to send it back to the factory? As I understood it all that was offered was to let the dealer do another bodge that will look OK for a few months.
Factory paintshops simply aren't set up for localised paintwork on assembled vehicles. They're set up for automated painting of bare bodyshells on production lines.

Sending it back to Spain or Turkey will achieve nothing that a competent bodyshop can't do far better.

Factory bodywork is superior to main dealer bodged bodywork. In a different league.0
