Where have I said I want a new vehicle for a 12mths one.

If you had read my posts you would have knows that we were willing to pay more money for a higher spec van, but the money they were offering us for the van we bought as NEW, was laughable

I have already said it has taken us 9 months to get here with them, and the ONLY thing they are offering is the repair. They won't cover our costs taking the van to 2 independent places for inspection (very time consuming and costly as we live on the IOW) and we had to take it to the mainland for 1 of the inspections.

If you had been party to their communication/lack of, you would/should be appalled, you only have to google FordUK to see how they treat their customers once they have your money.

How does the offer compare to the PX and retail values of an equivalent van?

Tweaked that for you - as THAT value is what should apply as the PX value. :)

Factory bodywork is superior to main dealer bodged bodywork. In a different league.

Car factory paintshops don't have any secret, magic tech or skills that set them apart from any other decent paint repair workshop.

In Fact a good independant can often be better as they can take the time to perfect and hand finish to a much higher standard (at a cost of course) than the re-work bloke on £15 - £20 per hour who has production targets to meet.

Yes, absolutely that was the value I was referring to. Sorry, thought it was implicit in "equivalent".

Their offer was less (a lot) that what "we buy any van" offered us. We checked again today and WBAV are still offering us much more than they would have.

One of the things I find so amazing is the fact that the motor industry have no concept of honesty. They just don't get it. The customer paid full price for a brand new van. What they got was a manufacturer refurbished van. The supplier wouldn't say it was refurbished because then they would have to sell it for less. So they sold it for full price. The poor customer thought they had bought new but because they had been deceived it took a while for them to discover the 'cover up'.

Do we know that the dealer knew about it? The O/P has told us that the paint quality degraded a number of months after purchasing.

Therefore not the supplier, nor Ford, but one of the up to half dozen companies who came in to contact (literally in this case) with the van between it leaving the factory and arriving at the dealers.

The only time i saw it was when we went to look at a Mercedes back in 2016. The main dealer didnt have the exact car but had a matching saloon variant. They apologised before we even got in to the car as there was a scuff on the rear bumper and a bit of trim missing. It had arrived off the transporter like that and they were going to have it repaired, and register it as a demo car and one of the sales guys would run it for six months.

Had the transport company had it repaired chances are the main dealer would never have noticed.

Given some of the respondents in this thread, I felt it important to change implicit to explicit. ;):D

Indeed. During which, for all the dealer knew, they could have scraped the van and had it fixed on the cheap.

I wonder how the van was bought.

Was it a factory order? If so, was there a delay in delivery?
Was it in stock at the dealer? If so, had it got to them directly from import, or via a stock-swap with another dealer?
Was it in Ford UK central stock or at a different dealer?

There's a myriad of ways in which the dealer could have simply never known about the pre-delivery repair, especially if - as the OP suggests - the paint looked good initially.

I also wonder how the paint deteriorated over the time.

Another thing to note is that most manufacturer's now employ a third-party to carry out pre-delivery inspections at the point of entry into the country and this is usually where any minor paint damage would be picked up and rectified. It's likely the dealer wouldn't know anything about it themselves unless they specially enquired.
