I s'pose if you're Martin Lewis and can afford a cellphone or two, you're alright.
But it's very discriminatory to those who don't have or don't want one.

Tell you what, as I have used MSE for some considerable years I can afford the 50p text so I've sent for another download which you can have come download time in January.0 -
Touch wood, but I haven't had any bank charges at all in the last 20 years.
BUT, I have saved a fortune thanks to this site, my phone bill is about £15 less a month, I'm getting about £300 year back on my credit card, and that's not to mention all the bargains I've picked up from the Grabbit and Argos boards.
For that reason, and not because I like the song or otherwise, I've sent a text. This is not about how good the song is, it's a vehicle which will make people aware of the undercurrent of anger people are feeling at the ways the banks are treating them.
It's also a great way to make kids financially aware, and set them in the right mindset as they get older i.e. don't just accept charges levied by companies and banks as fair.
Cheers

I don't have a mobile phone (there are still those who don't, you know).. how do I buy this?0

I agree. In fact, the 5p subsidy is putting me off downloading. I don't want to cause anyone to lose money (however small) as a result of my action.
Come on, this is a form of advertising for MSE, if 30,000 people send the text it would cost MSE £1500 (30,000 * 5p), and if it works and gets to number one the publicity is going to be worth 10 times that to MSE.

ps. I just noted littlescarlets comment that she has "saved hundreds of pounds via this site and I consider this payback". AFAIK, the ONLY people benefittting from this financially are the phone company, so who are you 'paying back' exactly ?
armcurl, I am paying Martin back 'in kind', not literally. In other words, I am supporting a campaign which the most money and media savvy bloke I know says will work. He is actually losing money, 5p per download, but he seems to think its worth it.<!-- / message -->0 -
Notice that the press, certainly on line editions, are beginning to pick up this story0
