ok, so by the sounds of things:
- the song is poor/mediocre quality (so unlikely to go to #1),
- neither the band, record label nor MoneySavingExpert.com profit from the song (so the phone company will be raking it in),
- it's the publicity that counts.
Let's face it - this is 'MONEY SAVING expert', so let's save some money and allow the track to reach a wider audience at the same time. If you're after a spot of viral advertising, selling a substandard track to the immediate financial benefit of none but an unconcerned phone company is probably not the best way to go about it...
ps. I just noted littlescarlets comment that she has "saved hundreds of pounds via this site and I consider this payback". AFAIK, the ONLY people benefittting from this financially are the phone company, so who are you 'paying back' exactly ?
There is a difference between profiting and being paid for a job which is what the 50p goes towards and if you read it carefully you'll find it is costing MSE 5p per phone call0 -
Reclaimed £180 so text sent:heart: I love my gorgeous little girl0

this is brilliant, ordered and told some people - really hope it makes no.1 - :rotfl:0

I like the idea behind the song, but isn't MSE's subsidy of 5p, plus all this promotion, risking the song being disallowed in the official charts?
Specifically:
No record company, distributor, retailer, Artist or other party should act or encourage others to act in any
way designed to distort, or which has the effect of distorting the Chart by achieving a higher or lower Chart
position for a record than it would otherwise achieve.
I'm just a bit worried that loads of people will download it, then it won't be allowed in the charts
Perhaps I've misunderstood the OUKC rules?!

Hi folks, there's no need to worry about this. The song and price is fine. Originally the price was 50p and sorted; then I found we hadn't arranged to send a reminder text on 7 Jan after you've bought it and so rather than pushing the price up as everything had been predicated on 50p I decided to pay for that. What shall I put here?0 -
smoothcoco wrote: »50p........thats all. I don't understand why this song is being picked at. For goodness sake it's only 50p not £50. Whilst signing a petition on downing street may prove useful (doubt it), this way of doing it, is fun. I enjoyed it and will definitely be passing it around for others to download.
I received all my overdraft fees back and therefore feel that 50p is, as the other poster said, MONEY WELL SPENT
I agree with this, its 50p, it'll have a lot more clout than a petition would. And it'll miff the banks.I'm in. :T0 -
I s'pose if you're Martin Lewis and can afford a cellphone or two, you're alright.
But it's very discriminatory to those who don't have or don't want one.

My mobile phone was FREE
I get FREE calls and texts each month
I get 100% of the line rental refunded.
Total cost over 12 months =£0
All that I haveto do is remember to send bills number 3 6 9 and 12 back to the retailer as soon as they arrive for a refund. It's all very simple if you're organised.
Calls to numbers such as 82822 are not included, but it is only 50p and overall I've saved at least a thousand times this amount thanks to Martin's website, so I'm certainly not going to grumble about the 50p.
If you haven't got a mobile because you don't WANT one then why not give 50p to a pal and ask them to download the song instead.0 -
suggestion:
get one of the free sim cards that are posted in the freebies thread and use that to text the number as they often have a bit of credit...

I agree. In fact, the 5p subsidy is putting me off downloading. I don't want to cause anyone to lose money (however small) as a result of my action. I would be just as happy to spend 55p as 50p. Come on, there's hardly any difference.
As for the other ways of promotion, I don't think that would break the rules. What song doesn't get promoted in one way or another?0 -
i sent mine, i got over £2000 for my mum and husband back from banks, worth 50p just for publicity, will also use as ring tone in January...great talking point, even if not no.1 in charts...:money::DReclaimed thanks to this site: £2596.71

Oh for goodness sake people! Okay, it may not be up there with the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, or Elvis, but it IS very upbeat, it's positive message and so daft (I love the horse!) it should get loads of publicity.
It's also a fantastic advert for MSE and for those people (where on earth have they been?!) who don't know about it.
Personally we have reclaimed thousands. MSE and Martin give you the confidence, (and the means) to do that. We've also saved a heck of a lot of money, and we've been helped in so many different ways by MSE and many MSE'ers.
The last newsletter had an article about reclaiming mortgage redemption fees. Withing 10 minutes, we'd already got a refund of £50 being sent from one company, and another being looked into! I certainly don't mind paying 50p if it will help spread the message.
If enough people are kicking up a fuss about the banks, then sooner or later someone will have to sit up and listen, and hopefully that will happen at the trial.
Thanks to Martin and everyone who've helped us. Personally, I think you're brilliant! - SuzyxxThe times they are a-changin' - Bob Dylan0
