Wow, looks like a great protest

Picture 3 troubles me a little - it looks as if Martin is trying to make some sort of protest movement...

  • I did my bit, bought & downloaded and then encouraged the young peeps over at https://www.thesite.org (advice site for teens, I think I'm getting too old now at 20 but nvm) tp buy it.

Good idea though :) - giving people a voice. Shame so many didn't exercise it.

Thanks so much to everyone who bought the song - getting the song into the charts really helped to raise awareness of bank charges even if we did hope to get slightly higher than number 25.

As I'm sure everyone knows, the bank charges issue has been getting loads of media attention over the last week or so, as has the song. We have received several comments from the media that the song is a good way to make the bank charges issue fun and interesting, so we're hoping to get it up the charts this week to continue the good work started last week.

If you haven't already bought or downloaded the song it's not too late - with all the media attention we'll be getting higher than number 25 this week!

Martin had some great publicity outside the Royal Courts of Justice today and I'm hoping bank charges will be mentioned on Newsnight as I write this...

Infact :rotfl:it was just played on newsnight! That was the weirdest moment ever! Jeremy Paxman just introduced it - a bank charges single just 'burst' into the charts at number 25...

Point 1, at this point of time they are not illegal (that is part of what the case is about).
    Point 2, some are
Point 3, that is media hype based on a low end cost ... I have posted several times that I was once involved in a project (and know of others) that sent unsolicited, unrequested letters (but legally required) that cost upwards of £60 per customer ... so at the other end of the market maybe companies should be allowed to charge whateve they feel like as long as they can justify it.
Point 4 that's a myth, banks can make money on an account operated in a responsible manner.
Point 5, I agree it is disproportionate ... I can only think some people are very very stupid for agreeing to pay it in the first place .. not to worry actually incur them.

Would I be right in assuming that you are a claimant and therefore have a vested interest in the outcome?

    HI IvanOpinion,
1, I am aware of course, but it is referred to as illegal by many. did you see the programme BBC The true cost of bouncing a cheque? http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/business/6507865.stm
also I quote from Andrew George MP for West Cornwall " I think that the banks are extorting money from the most vulnerable people in society" and " it is inevitable that those on the lowest incomes who have the greatest difficulty maintaining their accounts in credit will be the most vulnerable to these charges"
Have you read "The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 ?

If as you say the banks can make money on accounts handled in a responsible manner, why the disproportionate charges. Nobody agrees to pay, surely you know life isn't perfect, circumstances happen people face all sorts of problems even the most scrupulous account holders. Banks create all sorts of problems with dd's, mortgage payments and salaries as well.

By the way my response was to Edna bucket's post, therefore the question about the claimant was meant for EB , not that I don't welcome your opinion.

As for the vested interest, I have been on 3 different forums for 12 months now, even if I never see my £1000. claim, it's the principal of this, that I am working hard for now. so much corruption in our country isn't there, it's a good job some of us try isn't it.
