Help Get the Bank Charges song to number 1!

Sadly your link doesn't work for me, but it is an article I think I have read before. The media likes to get its hands on mass appeal stories and exaggerate them to appeal to what people want to hear while hiding much of the reality ... I gave you an example previously, would you think it right for customers to be charged (e.g.) £60 for a letter they did not ask for and did not want, but it is a provable cost for the production of that letter? That is the other side of the coin that you are not being told.HI IvanOpinion,
1, I am aware of course, but it is referred to as illegal by many. did you see the programme BBC The true cost of bouncing a cheque? http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/business/6507865.stm
The quote is a misdirection to appeal to an uniformed populous. The money is not being taken from the most vulnerable it is being taken from the most financially incompetent across all areas of income. The sad reality is that it is more than likely that as a result of this campaign it will be the most vulnerable that will end up losing the most (e.g if we all have to pay for banking, loan interest rates go up a little bit, credit facilities unavailable etc.)also I quote from Andrew George MP for West Cornwall " I think that the banks are extorting money from the most vulnerable people in society" and " it is inevitable that those on the lowest incomes who have the greatest difficulty maintaining their accounts in credit will be the most vulnerable to these charges"
Have you read 'don't sign it if you disagree with it' ... there has always been a choice.Have you read "The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 ?
By signing the T&C you have agreed to pay the charges. Many (most?) of the problems are not caused by the banks but are caused by the people operating the account. Yes circumstances change however the first piece of advice is don't spend money you do not have and the second piece of advice is to contact your bank and discuss it with them and don't bury your head in the sand until it is too late.If as you say the banks can make money on accounts handled in a responsible manner, why the disproportionate charges. Nobody agrees to pay, surely you know life isn't perfect, circumstances happen people face all sorts of problems even the most scrupulous account holders. Banks create all sorts of problems with dd's, mortgage payments and salaries as well.
Sadly it is 'the principle' that is going to end up costing us all more. Those that get their charges back will have won their little battle against the banks, however the one thing guaranteed is that the banks will win the war and get the money back from anybody with an account. We have already seen evidence of this in changes to credit card rates, loan rates and saving rates being out of step with BoE changes. Remember the 'corruption' that started of any sequence of events was in the owner of the account spending money that was not theirs to spend.it's the principal of this, that I am working hard for now. so much corruption in our country isn't there, it's a good job some of us try isn't it.[/I]
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Behind you all the way Anges... I know how hard you are working to see justice prevail. After all we all want our bank charges refunded otherwise we wouldnt be here... would we?
Precisely Jenny. It is a small effort fighting for justice and it would be nice to get the unlawful penalty charges back, thats why we all started to follow Martin and the others' advice in the first place.0 -
ivan.. what type of letter costs £60???'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

First brief answer IVANOPINION: QUOTE: "Dont sign it if you don't agree with it" WE have never signed anything. We opened this account 40 YEARS ago, before the 'unlawful' penalties. ( have you read the "Unfair terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 ??) and we have never signed any T&C or anything else for that matter when penalty charges were introduced.( get back later have to rush off urgently!) what letter costs £60 ?? solicitors??0

But surely your bank has been sending you updated T&C pamphlets throughout that time - we get 'em regularly and I suppose most people do. Because you have kept your account open, you have in fact created an ongoing contract.
I wish more people would "come clean" as one honest MSE poster did on a similar thread and admit that the majority here just see an opportunity of a money grab or "free money."0 -
