Why is dealer being awkward about vehicle collection?

I bought a new BMW X4 yesterday, the salesman said I could collect "next week". I'm only free on Thursday, but the salesman has said that's not possible as he's off on Thursday, so is now suggesting the following week. I want my car! Why would the salesman be so adamant he has to be there when I collect the car?
