It's an increasingly modern-day occurrence... that you can only do business with a firm if you deal with one person because "they're out".

In the olden days when people had secretaries and receptionists with authority you'd have been able to go and collect the car whenever you chose and the staff member would go straight to the file, find the paperwork, know what to do, issue the car. These days everything seems "locked down" to the vagaries of the working week of one staff member.

It's annoying....
