Why is dealer being awkward about vehicle collection?

I wouldn't be sure you will get all the deposit back; especially if they are as bad as you say. They will keep some of it for work done, admin, loss of opportunity to sell to someone else and a whole lot of other reasons they'll think up.0

The motoring section of this forum does seem to produce pointless flame wars that become increasingly irrelevant to the actual topic. I have reported it to a moderator, but have no idea if anything will be done.Anyone who's interested, when I bought the car last week I said I needed it by the end of this week. Many phone calls and lies later, I've now cancelled and asked for my £5k deposit back. I have no idea what they were playing at but I guess I'll never know.
So back to car shopping.
Was the required date ever written down in the contract? If not, you may have a fight to get your money back. Motor vehicle contracts are usually deliberately vague as to when the delivery will be.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

That is not quite the same as I'm asking, are they giving the deposit back?
I've already answered you:
"Of course. The contract was entered into based upon certain facts - actually being able to take ownership of the car and drive it away from the showroom was one of the main ones."0 -
Much waffle in here.
OP have they agreed to refund your deposit in full?
If they have its a good result0 -

Why do people keep asking the same question that I've already answered?!

You haven’t answered the question, you said you have asked for it back and then mentioned the contact.
Doesn’t matter though, I am out0 -
