    oh the way the copper wire works is there is a small gap between each peice the slug toches 1 of them it wont huirt them but when both are in contact it gives a small electrical shock causing it to fall off,personly i use crushed egg shells to keep the blighters off and it looks nice aswell

    Never knew that, I'll remember that when growing my own, not actually tried it yet.

    And wonder if the drinking alcohol will make humans grow bigger one day to lol.

    I know this is a thread to get rid of snails, But I have a question?

    If a snails shell is broken will it grow back????

    My son has just crushed one (poor thing!!) but it's still moving/sliding around!

    kprice according to the wiki entry on snails;

    "Usually a snail can repair damage to its shell over time if its living conditions improve, but severe damage can be fatal."

    I'm not sure how or why it works but the slugs crawl up but give up and fall off when they encounter the copper band.
    Due to something to do with their slime, copper gives snail and slugs electric shocks - they can't cross the copper tape.

    It's aphids i have trouble with! :mad:

    With regards to the spiders! When I met my better half a few years ago, his mum had bowls of conkers around the house...... I thought she was nuts when she told me they kept the spiders away.... I tried it in my greenhouse and hey presto! Alll of the little blighters soon left!

    I also have raised vegetable beds and around the edge have put lenghts of copper piping! Works a treat! :T
