Law on brake checking someone

You don't brake hard for a cat or dog if there's even the slightest chance you might veer off and hit a person or a child.
If you can analyse an object suddenly moving across your path, quickly enough to avoid instinctively braking, then I salute your greater ability than mine.
However, if you could see the situation developing (e.g. loose dog/cat/child/adult playing on 'phone) on the pavement, and then choose to run something over when you could have slowed down earlier, maybe I won'tI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

That's not how I read the thread. I don't see anyone condoning the other guy's behaviour. Criticising OP's actions isn't the same as defending the other driver. Mutual !!!!!!!ery is entirely plausible
No, you're right, but I get the impression that some people think OP shouldn't have honked, did so out of rage, or only ended up in the situation because they weren't paying attention, or driving too close - someone pulled out in front of them, causing them to brake hard, and they ended up close to the back of them, and they honked their horn. Fully justified in my opinion, but some people seem to think OP suffers from road rage! The other party is the brake tester/shouter out the window! The way the OP describes it, they didn't do anything wrong. There are 2 sides to every story, but what if it actually happened the way they describe it?!!0 -
Good job I didn’t honk the brake checker then isn’t it
“But you mentioned sounding your horn earlier in the thread” my critics will say.
Yes I did. Did I say it was at last weeks brake checker though or did I mention it in a separate incident years ago?
Not sure if people don’t read at all or do but choose to twist words. Haven’t worked that bit out yet.0 -

Had you used your horn you would have been justified if it was at the correct time. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
Had you used your horn you would have been justified if it was at the correct time.
The correct time is before they pull out, to alert them of your presence.
I tried sounding at the correct time (post #16) and it just caused a lot of toys to be thrown(But I didn't crash or have to brake sharply I suppose
:D)

Andrenalin nothing. Bad attitude when typing, more than likely bad attitude when driving. Problems of their own making.
I know there's people on here who love to go delving. Look long enough and you'll see many examples on here of me 'bad attitude when typing', however you'll see many examples of me being polite and thankful.
The important thing to note is what comes BEFORE the 'attitude' or the politeness. It's not hard to work out.
When i'm being polite and thankful on here that's because others have been helpful with no attitude so i'm grateful for their time.
However when others just spout absolute BS (certain forums on this board are worse for it than others) then i'll get 'attitude' each and every time thank you. Why not talk to people how they talk to you?
All this nonsense of "he probably did this" and "this usually happens so i bet that's what did happen, even though i don't have a clue at all but i want to jump on the bandwagon to up my like count" and then there's your .... he used 847 words in a post so that MUST mean he's guilty, it's scientifically proven.
Honestly :rotfl:You could've but it all to bed by posting up your dashcam footage.
Or not. This is MSE after all
Now you can take the obvious stance of i've not posted it therefore i am guilty your honour because clearly that's the ONLY reason for not posting right? Any other reason just isn't juicy enough.
Or maybe when there's the nonsense i just mentioned about people talking of "he's posting aggressively therefore his driving must surely be aggressive" and "he's guilty because if someone pulls out in front of him, regardless of how little time they gave him, even if they pulled out in front of him and hit him because they left it so late then it is STILL his fault because he should've predicted the future and known the other guy was going to pull out"
...then do you really think i'm going to post any video? The video could show the guy racing out at the last second, hitting my side & then ramming me head on and you'd still decide that i'd be in the wrong so aside from giving you a fresh angle to twist things on what would posting a video actually do?
Answer is nothing. You decided what stance you were taking, regardless of absolutely anything.0 -
It’s a good job you’re the cool type and not easily provoked.0

I see JustAnotherSaver is _still_ posting!
Until I read this thread with an increasingly morbid fascination I'd never even heard the phrase 'brake checking'.
Still, I'd love to buy an electric vehicle, so I'm just hoping a child runs out in front of me and my observation and anticipation is better that the driver behind me.. If it's the OP I should be in luck!;-) It'll only be a couple of grand but a good excuse to get an EV.0
