  • How can insurance companies justify NCD protection and then charge more if you have an accident, surely this is the same as mis-sold PPI?

Your discount is protected, but a rise in premiums isn't.

  • Advise advise on this ....thanks
Directline says they need to have access cost paid in full to initiate a claim regardless if the accident is your fault or not? While the other party admitted liability, why should I pay the insurance company hundreds pf pounds?

If the other party can pay you or is insured then cancel your claim and go direct to the third party/their insurer and claim off them.
  • hi, don't know if this is in the right place.
I took out insurance with Adrian Flux (flux direct) and paid in full over the internet.
All my correspondance is via email.
Right from the start I told them the insurance for the car was my partners address as this is where the car is kept and is where I stay most of the time.
I asked if this was ok and I recieved an email back the next day stating that it was and they just needed my home address aswell for the records.
I gave them all my details including my home address which was on my licence and NCB from previous insurer etc.
This was all sent within 9 days via email.
3 weeks into the insurance I recieved an email saying my insurance was cancelled?

I rang them up and a lady said it's because my home address was a risk area and I would loose £200 from my insurance refund.

Surley this can't be right, this wasn't the address the car was insured for (my home address is actually a nice area, I just dont stay there so it's pointless insuring a car somewhere that's never there)
They also had all my details nearly 5 days before the 14 days refund if there was a problem.
All corresspondance from them has been instant as it's been via email, that is untill they waited for the 14 days cooling off period to tell me there was a problem
If there was any problem about insuring the car from my partners address instead of my own then surley the email I recieved the day after I asked them should have said there could be and I would have cancelled myself rather than risk loosing all this money.

I have had to take out insurance elsewhere and haven't recieved any refund at all so far, I wrote to them on them nearly 2 weeks ago and sent the same via email and haven't heard anything yet

anyone help or advice, sorry if its in the wrong part of the forum I did look about
    thanks
    frank
  • Thanks, how do i do that?
  • Insurance companies infer that the price of insurance is a fixed amount. See ANY advert for insurance. You then get a discount for the number of years you have taken out insurance. They cannot simply change the goalposts by then saying they can charge more for the premiums. If that is the case, then they are committing fraud by taking money for protecting how much you pay and then defaulting on it. They cannot have it both ways.

...then they are committing fraud by taking money for protecting how much you pay and then defaulting on it. They cannot have it both ways.....

You misunderstand what they are "taking" the money for when "protecting".

The "protection" you are paying for is your level of "no claims discount".

In the event of a fault claim being made, if you have protected your NCD, then it's original level (at the start of the year) is unaffected by the claim. If you have no protection, then you get no NCD added for the year in which the claim is made AND "lose" 2 years from the level you had at the start of the year.

No such protection exists for your premium. That will alter each year, but you will still get your protected NCD level used to determine your net premium.
  • Sorry, but I'm afraid you are missing the point. The insurance companies quite clearly state in their adverts that the BASE premium is a finite amount. This means it cannot change unless they are lying. Otherwise they cannot issue the statement "You save £XXX amount" Therefore for a given circumstance, the BASE amount less the NCD is also a finite amount. Why are we as motoring public allowing them to get away with it. We have seen the light with loans, now we should stamp out these anomalies with insurance. The insurance companies are currently opeerating with an open cheque book, and it is us who are paying.

To clarify, what I am saying is the only circumstance which has changed is an unavoidable accident. By changing this one event, the insurance premium can change by up to 10 times. As I have maximum NCD, even if I knock 2 years off it doesn't alter the premium by more than 10% So why are they even offering NCD protection, it doesn't actually do anything except cost extra money on the premium. In my view it is no different than selling PPI. It is WORTHLESS.
