  • Hi my stolen car (stolen form London) has been found 8 weeks later in Yorkshire after a police chase so it is a write off.
I have been asked to pay for the recovery (even though i was ot contacted prior to the recovery) and for storing something that cannot be driven for a full 35 days before they can crush it which i have asked them to do.
it is £150 foe the recovery and £25 daily for storage.
I cancelled my insurance after the car was stolen as it would ave cost me more to continue (losing te car money was the cheaper option).

The cop who dealt with me said i shouldnt have to pay these charges but the Police pound said i did.

    Does anybody know?
Also what should i do with the DVLA?

I'd start this as a new thread, it gets lost in this one.
  • I had 3 penalty points on my licence 2 years ago for using mobile phone (Traffic offence CU-80). Is it ok if I don't disclose to my new car insurance provider as it increases my insurance by 40£ a year and its not a driving fault as well. I am a second driver on the car.Thanx.

You must declare those penalty points to each insurance company when renewing your insurance and/or getting quotes.

Most insurance companies want you to declare points for 3 to 5 years - check the T&Cs

  • Hi, first post topic slightly off at a tangent but here goes. Insurance with Admiral expired but as I no longer had the car I neither needed or required insurance (been previously scrapped), I forgot about the insurance reminder, busy with other things etc. Anyway then insures write say they tried to collect money from my bank but were denied, good I thought, cheeky blighters, not my original thoughts but the cleaned up version. Anyway they then send me a letter stating they have cancelled the policy for non-payment but issued me with a bill for the period upon which they claim to have insured me for. As Ive been away on holiday this has now been passed to a debt collection agency. What an absolutely disgusting way to do business. I'm in the process of sending letters to Admiral and the debt collection agency but I would welcome any comments and advice including who else to send letters to, Financial services? Insurance ombudsman?.
    Thank you.
  • I have just phoned Hastings on behalf of my son to inform of a change of address which they tell me will cost £35.00. I was then informed that my son had paid up his direct debits as the insurance runs out next month but they also had to charge him a further £19.65 because the policy is more at expensive where he is now living & he had to pay it today by card. I feel this is this is totally unreasonable as he has paid up his fees. Does anyone know how I can take this further as I am so angry about this, they would NOT waver the charge at all & he has 14 days to pay it. I expained he had just moved house & has a 7month old baby & couldn't afford to pay this but they where unrelenting & insisted he had to pay it as we had informed them of a change of address.:( to me this is extorting customers who are honest enough to inform them of any changes and they are being punished for doing so. I do not agree with driving without insurance and would never advise anybody to do it but I can understand why some people do not have insurance. They have got us all ways regarding this we still have to pay for being honest.

Your son's original deal with the insurer was based on the risk details he gave, and was for 12 months. (He will also have agreed to paying an admin fee for any changes to the policy).

It is your son who wants to move the goalposts, hence his premium alteration!

Presumably you wouldn't be mr angry had he moved to a "cheaper" (insurance) address, and they wanted to give him some money back following the premium adjustment!
