i think i will have to cancel insurance then.
car still not found and insurance is 3 weeks old now so hope cancellation fees not too high.
can they refuse to cancel by the way?0 -
They cannot refuse to cancel your contract, though they will want you to pay the correct premium, and any refund due will be calculated on the correct premium, rather than the premium they originally charged.0

i have contacted the insurance company, not very nice sadly but hope they will do what they said they would.

Hi I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on this one? I had a bump in my partners car earlier this year and we had to claim for damage to the other vehicle on his insurance (I'm a named driver on his policy). However, I never informed my own insurance company as I didn't think I needed to. Now my insurance has come up for renewal and automatically renewed last week. I've got 14 days to cancel so have been searching the web for better deals and was wondering whether I need to declare this incident to new insurers or to my current one, whether I stick with them or not?
Obviously I want to be legal and not be prosecuted for insurance fraud but nor to I want my prices to soar unnecessarily! I just presumed I never had to declare the bump and now I'm concerned firstly thy I should've done and if I do now my insurer will want to back date any increase in cost/ prosecute me for insurance fraud and secondly that my premium will rocket even more than it already had!
Any tips??
Thanks

You do need to declare this.
Although your present insurer won't prosecute you for fraud they may want to increase (just this new year's) premium. If a revised premium is due, they will just back date to the start of the new policy year.0 -
Hello all, im hoping someing can give me a hand.
I recently bought car insurance and soon after cancelled it (this was on the thursday 24th) and was told by the man on the phone that it had all been done, there were no charges and also the money would be in my account the next day. Well after 5 days the money hadn't gone in my account so i decided to call and see if everything was ok. I was told that it hadnt been cancelled and there will be charges for the cancellation (even more now because theyve charged me for the amount of days ive been covered). I asked if there was anything they could do because i couldnt remember the mans name from the first call so they tried to trace my call and they had nothing, i even gave the exact time but nothing, so now theyre making me pay for the so called days ive been covered to cancel the policy! any help please as its quite a lot of money.0 -
Hmmmm do I definitely need to tell them you think? I'm gutted as it's pretty much going to make my insurance out of the realms of anything I can afford! Isn't there anyway round it?0
-
Hmmmm actually after doing some digging: -
- a new search on my current insurers website adding the accident as if I claimed made my insurance go up LOADS
-however, on other comparison websites when I mention the accident it doesn't go up that much, in fact one was cheaper than the one I currently renewed with, and they don't know about the accident!!
Think I'll have to cancel my existing insurers and go to a new one and declare the accident- still works out cheaper by the looks of it-although no courtesy car...:/
I'll see what the best deal I can find is....thanks for your advice

Just had renewal notice from Tesco who i have been with for a number of years......£715.65..... nearly dropped through the floor..... I'm 50 and drive a 2ltr tdi Leon.I remembered reading Martin's advice about applying as a new customer.Did this, and the quote came out at £402.98 for the same level of cover.Saved the quote and gave them a call, told them that i was far from happy with my renewal quote and that i had got a quote on their website for £402.98.Also made a point of telling them that they rely on people's apathy and that if you have a busy life style it's easy to go along with automatic renewal.GOT MY INSURANCE FOR....£402.98.... A SAVING OF OVER £300.
Also went through the same process with my Green Flag Breakdown Cover and saved £26.00
The whole process only took about 15mins.

I'm sure this has come up before but I would appreciate any input. Two weeks ago I was involved in a minor incident. The other party's insurer has fully accepted liability. My insurer has declined to repair my car (for reasons I'm not really sure) and made me an offer which was bizarrely 13% higher that the quote for repairs. Even so, I am unable to find a similar car in similar condition for less than 35% above their offer. I explained this and rejected their initial offer but they said that was the value in their guides and would not budge. I was therefore left with the only option of buying it back from them to get it repaired myself and taking the risk that I could get it done within the settlement figure. Furthermore, because the insurer won't repair it, they have declared it a cat D write-off and advised me that this would reduce the retail value of it further, should I put it back on the road. I thought (naively, it would appear) that, as I was fully comprehensive, I should be "put back" to the position I was in prior to the accident, especially as it was not my fault. However, having talked to others on the subject, this does not appear to be unusual behaviour. This background, then, is the basis for two questions.
Firstly, the local garage mechanic says that he has heard of at least one insurer actually checking the values of cars, via the internet etc, that are available in the real world (as opposed to a desk with little black books) and settle accordingly. Has anyone come across this and willing to share the name of their insurer?
Second, it is pointless the insurer asking the value of the car during the application phase if they then ignore it in the event of a claim. Does anyone know of an insurer that will honour that value? I know that would lead to a higher premium but I would rather have that and know that I am actually insured properly that the current unsatisfactory situation.
