I'm not sure that other insurers can check if you have had a windscreen claim (either chip repair or replacement). Where would they find this information ?
According to the info I have been able to find out about the CUE database, it does not hold windscreen claims data.
See : http://www.experian.co.uk/insurance/cue/objects/PartnerDataSheets2.pdf
P.S.
I have also learned that the CUE database does not record when an insurer cancels a policy. (Just holding my hands up to being wrong with something I said about this in a different thread)
Very interesting stuff, and thankfully not a long document. I wonder whether there are other concurrenty running schemes, like the CUE, that insurers have access to. As it would appear that the only way to benefit from having access to the DB is for an insurer to submit their own data, I wonder if there are some insurers who choose not to do so, or indeed whether it's industry standard or even compulsory?
thanks for the link though

'retrospective increase'? That's a penalty charge by any other name isn't it?
I can understand how once they know about the points they could increase your premiums in the future, or even refuse to payout on a claim if you hadn't told them about your points, but trying to grab some money off you after the contract has ended because you defaulted is a penalty charge. It's even worse if no mention of 'retrospective premiums' is made in the contract.
What a bunch of shakedown merchants!
Aliitle too harsh, don't you think. but i do feel your pain!0 -
Hi
i need some advice.
3 weeks ago i bought a car, car insurance, tax, breakdown cover and last saturday my house was broken into and few things stolen including car keys and car!! in the meantime my insurance wrote to me asking me to prove my no claim bonus which i am unable to do as apperently you need to be a main driver to do so and i was only a named driver! this morning got a letter saying i need to pay £928 on top of the £665 i have already paid. my car cost me £1100. can i just cancelled my insurance and lose the money on the car or go ahead with a claim and hope for the best??
please help0 -
You can cancel your insurance, though you will still have to "confess" that you have no NCD, and there will be a premium adjustment due for the time you have been on cover (at the wrong premium), plus cancellation charges.0

Can anyone help please?
3 weeks ago i bought a car and it got stolen last staurday!! Gutted.
all insured and taxed but now insurance are adding £928 to my already paid £665 because i could not prove my no claim bonus when they took me on.
i paid £1100 for the car.
what is best to do? go with the claim and hope for the best or do no claim and cancel policy before they charge me the £928.
I am still hopeful the police will find my car but that's me. :mad:0 -
It's renewal time again (sigh) - I've got a few quotes but before I make a decision, I was wondering if anyone could comment on which insurers are easy to deal with if you DO have to make a claim?
Although low cost is obviously important, I've been in situations where I have had to claim in the past few years, and my current insurer, Tesco's, have made it a REASONABLY smooth experience.
The Aviva quote I've got is very competitive - BUT would the claim experience be a nightmare, as some posts on this forum seem to suggest?
Any advice/comments welcome!0 -
hi,
thanks for the reply.
so am i better off just not claiming and lose the money paid on the card and cancel even though my cancellation period of 14 days is over?
they want to take the extra £928 by the 7th of december.0 -

If you claim, you will have to pay for the full year.
If you cancel, you will still have to pay them a revised premium back to the start date, plus their cancellation fees!
So work out which option is the least expensive.0 -
