how much do you think car insurance would be for a ford ka, for someone that has just passed their test?0

I'm barely going to use my car in the week as I have a bus pass to use until June. I've paid Sheila's Wheels £249.61 for this year. I was looking to cancel this and go to a pay as you drive scheme which I assumed would be cheaper.. apparently not! eCar Insurance want to charge £55.11 a month. That's much more than I'm paying now!
Or have I misunderstood the pay as you drive scheme?!0 -

Been looking that up for my 18 year old daughter, Confused.com + Moneysupermarket jointly beat the other comparison sites and specialised young driver site policies
Based on a 2002 KA - she works and goes to college
1667.83 4000 miles parked at night street - comp
1690.00 4000 miles parked at night driveway - comp
2000 miles parked at night street 1575.61 fire theft

I've just renewed.
I checked 8 different web sites - Money Supermarket, Go Compare, Direct Line, Aviva, More Than, RAC, Saga, and Autodirect. Quotes ranged from £418 (Privilege, through Money Supermarket) to £776 (Direct Line).
I renewed with the Co-op for £338 (up 8.3% on last year).
Oddly, a direct quote from the Co-op web site came out at £374, and the Co-op was quoted as £466 through Money Supermarket and £478 through Go Compare.
If I'd just followed the advice in Martin's article, I would be £80 a year worse off!
I would urge people to get quotes from the Co-op, and not rely on the main comparison sites.
Would be interested to hear other people's experiences of quotes from the Co-op.
(I'm 54, have only been driving 3 years, get 65% NCB and have a £250 total excess. My partner has a TS10, my license is clean.)0 -
I got quotes through comparison sites, to get the top ten I like, then go direct after having made a shortlist from cashback sites. So far all the prices have been the same, apart from ones that load an amount for the cashback. I move onto the next one if they do that.0

Whilst trying to upsell my roadside assist, my insurer (AA) became aware that I was currently unemployed. They insist that if I keep my current annual mileage of 15k then an additional premium is to be paid of £80+ which can be reduced to £40+ if my mileage is reduced to 5k. I was stunned by this news and no-one I have spoken to about it was aware of the requirement to advise car insurance brokers of a change in my employment status. Is this additional fee correct? What can I do to reduce the fee as I currently have no money coming in?:(0

You are bound by the conditions of your policy to tell your insurer about material changes, one of which is your occupation. So it is correct that an additional premium may be required.
Can't you reduce the mileage? If not, see if they will accept an offer to pay by instalments.0 -
I am moving back home to my parents next month. I have just gone to swift online to change my policy details and have had the shock of my life.
When I moved to swansea 1 year ago my monthly payments increased from my home address in Bridgend which I expected. I have just gone to change my address back and they are asking for a premium of £99 and my monthly payments to increase from £47 to £87 per month!!! Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Parting with that evey month for car insurance makes me want to cry!0 -
Just noticed that the current 'offer' of 300 points for a car insurance quote will not let you enter a renewal date after this year! Shame:(0

Surely that must be a web error! I've just spotted that too.0
