People need to wake up and smell the coffee, all the car insurance companies are absolutely fleecing the public and hiding behind lame excuses such as legal claims to justify this. When will the Government take note and take forceful action in regulating an industry where the consumer has no choice....that it is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT to have car insurance. Surely this doesnt give the insurance companies the right to charge extreme variations in premiums which make no logical sense. Im tired of hearing that spin that its a complex business with infinite variables and mathematical models + stats are used to determine the premiums. This may be so but with some of the variations clearly reported by consumers (Myself included) and the ridiculous hikes in premiums in the last year (mine went from £400 to £600 w/out any changes to my details) its high time we all stood up and complained to the Goverment to sort this mess out. I would ban all Claims Management Companies from operating, ban all referral fees, introduce strict rules to prevent insurance firms selling on your details if you have had an accident and remove place the onus on the claimant to medically prove and justify they have suffered significant whiplash that requires some form of financial compensation. SOme of the blame can be attributed to the public who despite knowing there is no basis for any whiplash claim still pander to these ambulance chasers who promise them £000s for ther services on a no win no fee basis. We all need to wisen up and remember that at the end of the day we are all coughing up to make these parasites richer! You may get £3000 in compensation but over a five year period you would have easily repaid that in increased premiums. Its no wonder that surveys have shown over 70% of U25s have considered driving without insurance since they have been priced out of the market. My solution would be to bring all car insurance under the management of a government agency, which runs on a small profit base and once premiums drop dramatically the majority of drivers will be willing to insure their cars and not risk driving around uninsured. Its not rocket science yet we still sit here lining the insurance companies pockets year in year out. If its such a tough industry when was the last time any one of the BIG INSURERS went bust??? At that point I end my argument!!!
Totally agree with this. I believe no win no fee is going to be stopped which should help reduce the ambulance chasing. The government need to take control of the situation. Just mandating the insurance of all vehicles is not a bad thing but the Insurance companies are taking the customers for a ride.Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -
Hello All,
Its come round to my car insurance renewal time again, when confused, I go compare the meercats etc etc. However this year after a year with esure, I was expecting a silly renewal quote of about £500 which I would reject and search for one about the £300 mark, but I was surprised to get a renewal for £230. Okay Ive lost my SP30 however I was fleeced by a minor knock which was my fault for £4k, but still £230 and the comparison site could get nowhere near that. Really amazed.
So Im going to snap up there offer. Also in there literature was if I recommend a friend, they get a free hotel for 2 people - 1 night or 12 car washes and I get the same offer as well - no existing customers just new.
So Im guessing esure are just cheap for their renewals and not new business, I dont mind, as its a way of keeping customers, finally they are learning.0 -
I assume you have checked the renewal documents to confirm that they have included all the correct facts ?
e.g.
Have they noted the £4K fault incident
Are all your other details accurate
Are the correct level of cover, excesses, etc. shown.
If all the facts are correct....then it is good to know that at least one company recognises loyalty of existing customers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yes, I have 5 years no claims, I dont protect it as it seems a bit of a con and I have a £500 voluntary excess. Fully comp.

esure were by far for the cheapest for Mum.
I just renewed from £500 last year to this year's price of £260, with lower £500 excess(still highish), what a great price for a 21 year old male.

Bar Aviva which I have already noted from posts, I would appreciate it if someone could post other Insurers whom are known to make follow up calls offering a much cheaper quote than the web quote given initially. ( As far as risk is concerned I tick all the right boxes as far as age/driving record, vehicle etc is concerned)0

Insurance cancelled with no refund by "Sheilas' Wheels" following a third party who has accepted responsibility, writing my car of, I am one month into the policy after paying in full.
They have written to me saying "Small Print" states that they have cancelled the policy. I have called them to confirm this and after challenging this was told that the 11 months paid premium is lost and "the money is theirs and that's just tough"0 -

Hi All.
I'm getting confusing with my Lloyds TSB car insurance. Last year they told me I need to exchange my EU driver license to British one and this is only thing why my car insurance so expensive. (Insurance price £964 for car 1.4L, DL 10+, NCD 4+). When I exchanged my license, the insurance agent stated I need to pay £35 for policy ammendment (ok for me) and +£100 for that I have a NEW license! When I asked lady if I treated as a NEW driver she said No, but policy price increase... Please advice me what to do.0
