Has anyone else come across this - Admiral have just informed me that they have a new policy that the youngest driver HAS to be classed as the main driver on a car. I have just renewed my multicar policy and they tried to renege on the quote I had been sent saying that my son, who is living away at uni, had to be put down as the main driver - despite the fact that he is not at home very often. I questioned this and was eventually told - after being put on an extremely long hold - that they would not enforce this new rule on this occasion but next year be warned! We live in the countryside with no bus service and it is impossible to get anywhere without a car but soon my twin sons will be priced off the road.

Hiya, can anyone help me as im banging my head against a brick wall here. Im 36 years old driving an 11 year old no thrills nissan almera. Last year my policy was £200 which was fine. This year my current insurer has more then doubled it to a whopping £470 !!! None of my circumstances have changed this past year, so Im baffled.

Ive tried all the price comaprison websites and loads of single ones not included on these, the cheapest I am finding is £350. I realise insurance is going up across the board but surely not an extra £150.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers :)

Give Chris Knott a call, they've always been competitive in my experience.

  • My partner has just experienced shocking Customer service from Hastings. In March he renewed his Car insurance policy with them, to start from 25th April. On 27th April he received a letter from them stating there had been a problem with his policy and if he wanted to renew the policy he had to contact them within 7 days. This letter was dated 18th April but not received until after the 7 days were up.When he rang to enquire what was going on he was told they hadn't asked for his security 3 digit code so couldn't renew the policy and as the 7 days were up he would have to be given a new quote and this was £50 extra!! After expressing his disbelief he asked to speak to the Manager who advised he couldn't do anything about it. The service is shocking on so many counts. For a start my partner had been driving for 2 days uninsured because he was not aware there was a problem with insurance taken out the previous month. Their answer was my partner should have checked his bank statement and realised the money hadn't been deducted. I would suggest if anyone is thinking of taking insurance out with this company you will have to check to make sure they have taken the payment because you could end up in the same situation. It's scary to think what would have happened if my partner had crashed the car or had it stolen and wouldn't have even known he wasn't covered for those two days

I don't know about 96p for a car insurance policy my renewal price is £80 more than last year and for the first time ever I'm not getting any quotes back that are lower than my renewal price and its not as though its even a great price!!

I've followed the guide but can't even find any cashback offers or deals that would save me some money & bring the price down.

Same here for the first time ever and I have done both my own and parents car insurance for years I have put my details in gocompare and moneysupermarket and only got one quote (more than on go compare) that was cheaper than my renewal!! The rest started from at least £70 more and just went up and UP!!!

My renewal is with Aviva £239 and when I put my details in their own website (thought it was worth a go because of the 12wks free thing & cashback!) they quoted me £309!

Still gonna ring them and tell them I have had a lower quote to see if I can haggle down from £239 though! ;)

    Just a quickie.....

Used the named driver trick by adding my neighbour which has brought my quote from reputable dealers (admiral, aviva, elephant) from around £2100 to £1100.....without the addition, the cheapest I was quoted was £1000 by 1st Central (which subsequently came down to £700 with named driver). (im 24, male, new driver, 1.4l skoda fabia, 51reg)

Do you suggest I go for the cheapest option, or pay the premium to have a mainland-UK based firm? Obviously I've seen the thread on 1st central's customer service.....but its only a banger and id rather protect my NCB, pay for repairs myself and just flog it if it gets infeasible.... Oh, and im not a boy racer :D

    Hi Guys

I have a question and I think its wort investigating further. I recently applied via a comparison website for car insurance. The insurance was about £500. I then, just because I was curios, applied again but this time removed the 6 years NCB and the figure was £800 (ish). Apparently 6 years is supposed to give me 75% off but surely that means it should be less that £200 ... or am I missing something?
I'd be intrigued to know if anyone knows the answer or has done similar checks as I get the feeling this is industry wide (based on the results I saw).

    Thanks
