Hi everyone
A little late, but by the time I read up to date, had to jump onto something else. Been searching round for the best prices for a new hob & extractor, the price my builder got beat MFI, but found similar cheaper on web. Ended up using Tradingpost in the West Midlands. Have to wait until mid next week for the hob to be in but big savings, Howdens wouldn't match. Kitchen now totally wrecked, no free space anywhere in the rest of the house, but worktops going back on now (re-using good carcasses), so should be liveable (just) by the weekend. Frozen, as builders like the door open so no use putting any heat on, just keep putting layers on. Raining here now.
Busy Freecycling both items taken out which can be re-used, and other bits found during emptying cupboards. (I know I'm a hoarder!)
Welcome newbies, (((hugs)) all round Happy Birthday Kiwichick - Hope the op went OK Pam.
Take care

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Pipkin - in some ways the poison might be better in that they go somewhere else to die and it sort of dessicates them as well. I have used those sonic things for about 2 years now and haven't seen any since then. You need one for each room really - there's no way I could deal with bodies - eeeeeew.
Hi stefejb
So do those sonic things really work? Our house has three floors so I would need a few. Having spoken to my neighbour, it appears the whole row have them, so the mice could be coming from anywhere along the block. The end house is empty after an eviction and by all acounts it's not very clean inside.
DD2 took great delight in telling her friends, and although I know it's not because we are dirty in any way, it's still embarrassing that others know you have mice. Sort of "eew, there's that Pipkin. She's got mice you know!":rolleyes:cheerfulness4 wrote: »Oh dear Pipkin - you clearly have a supermouse.Looks like the big guns are needed to deal with this one.
I will win though, hopefully cheerfulness4. I'm not going to be beaten by a mouse or ten:eek:pollyanna24 wrote: »Pipkin - don't know the full story about your mouse problem, but we thought we had one of them for a while as we found droppings (yuck) and cat kept coming up to us with various sizes of them. Couldn't use posion though because of her and doggie.
Hi pollyanna24:wave:
I saw a mouse run across my kitchen floor the other day, and found some droppings in the tupperware cupboard, but despite it setting the trap off, I haven't managed to catch it. Some poison was eaten overnight though.
Hope you have a nice time here. Everyone is so welcoming.:Apatentgirl wrote: »Pipkin I have that conversation with my DD3 most mornings stroppy is not the word sometimes they can be so nice and do anything for you the next the child from hell appears!
Hi patentgirl. I totally agree. DD2 has turned quite stroppy lately. Although she's just turned 9, she's a lot stronger, physically, than I am, so quite often these days if I tell her something she says "make me!" knowing full well I can't physically make her. You know, "Go to your room" - "make me". It's a battle at the moment.

Hi Pipkin
Can I suggest, shrugging when she says "make me" and so, no if you don't go to your room and now you can stay their and extra 10 minutes, with no phone, no tv or computer on, you may read a book though, or you can't watch x, or you can't go to y, or you can't go out with your friends. You must do this in the calmest placidist voice you can make, as if you don't care one way or the other. Think hard and find what hurts her the most. No mobile phone in the evening, not going on messenger, a favourite TV program you hate but put up with. She will be bewildered at not being berated, and ensure you keep what you threaten, to make sure she knows you mean it. Once she realises you mean it, then you can say you want to watch x, or whatever the punishment was don't you? which infers the threatened punishment without actually having to make it a threat. It worked for my DS, who is now 22 and taller than me and has been physically stronger for years.
Hope it works

Thanks DG.
Due to my health, my girls have an awful lot on their shoulders and do stuff others their age dont. So on the one hand, I sometimes feel DD2 is just letting off steam, on the other hand she really does try it on.
At the moment, she loves computer games, so banning her from touching her DS would [STRIKE]probably [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]possibly[/STRIKE] hopefully work and I'm going to give it a go.
I'm dreading her hitting puberty though:eek: Imagine a female kevin! There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Afternoon all.
Went to work this morning and came home an hour later. Dratted sore throat (missed the pub quiz last night because it hurt so much) seems to be turning into a proper cold now so I came home. Was looking at a spreadsheet and I swear it was moving!!!
Tonight its mad tidy up night as we have double glazing being fit tomorrow by safestyle. I'll be out Christmas shopping in Leeds (german market) so that I'm out of the way.
I think tea tonight is going to be a takeaway. We have so much to do that actually stopping to cook something seems like one job too many. Its normally DH's job to cook, so I'm hoping he's paying!!!
Hugs to all who want/need them. Welcome to PollyAnna, Happy Birthday to Kiwichick, and random hi's to everyone else.

Hi all
Nelski, you were missed
Kwichick, Happy Birthday
Catowen, you are never boring
Pam, fingers crossed for you
Pollyanna, welcome
Pipkin, don't worry to much about your daughter hitting puberty, one of my DD's was a nightmare from age 2 to 12, but was no trouble as a teenager.
Well I have to hit M & S soon, everyone co-ordinated their gifts & I got £50 of M & S tokens, woo hoo. I also got some perfume, a collection aof Dove Pro age products (no it wasn't an insult, I asked for them) & a snazzy teapot for 1 that sits on a cup.
It seems the lodgers activities are being encouraged by a non-teaching staff member who also has lots of 'uncles', so I'm now happy to take a step back & feel absolved from guilt & won't worry about picking up the pieces. Whilst I don't feel it is an ideal situation the other staff member is in her 40's & no doubt experienced enough to sort out any problems.
I'm off to look for the deeds to my house, I'm considering getting some chickens & need to check that I'm allowed.
Hugs Hester

Phew, managed to pop on here for a few minutes!
Before I forget, Welcome to Pollyanna and I'm sure there are some other new people on the thread whom I haven't mentioned, so Welcome to you too!
Shez - never feel you aren't noticed, Hon, we really do miss you and Catowen and Scuzz - well, all of you! when you're not around! (((HUGS))) Nice to see Colin with his Santa hat on again.
Penny -Pincher - sorry you are feeling so rough.(((HUGS)))
Kiwichick - Happy Birthday!
Mrs Mix - I don't know if you'll see this, probably not! But hope your op goes okay and looking forward to seeing you back soon.
Nelski - hope the floor goes well - I can hardly believe how the work is dragging on, but then I'm sure you can't either!
Donny-gal - good luck with the kitchen refurb - hopefully it won't take too long. Maybe you could post a photo when it's finished? I was wondering about having new doors for my kitchen cabinets, but tbh I'm pretty sure the carcasses are too decrepit now.
Churchmouse - not much luck so far with the menu-planning btw!
I know several people are having problems with illness, and ill/stroppy/ unhappy children - ((((HUGS)))) to you all.
Well, my MIL is now in Kings College Hospital, so a bit nearer to us for visiting. She has to have various tests before they decide what to do with her. DH is going to visit her tomorrow, but I'll be looking after DGS while his Mum goes to Antenatal. :A
Unfortunately MIL's bedside phone doesn't work, and although she has her mobile phone with her, she can't hear it ringing! I'll sort a few books for DH to take up for her - I'm sure she'd enjoy re-reading Anne of Green Gables, and I've also got The Family From One End Street which I don't know if she's ever read but she was a child at the time it's set, so I think she'd like that. Not sure what else yet, will have a rummage through the bookcases!
Just waiting for DH to come home from appointment at the Pain Management Clinic. They always run late and his appointment wasn't until 4.10, so I'm not really surprised he's not back yet as he'll be caught up in the rush hour traffic
Well that's all for now, I'm off to cut up some chicken for a stir-fry. See you tomorrow!
Best wishes
