If you could live anywhere in the UK...

In a seaside town, but has to be right on the seafront. Town has to have a station though and other amenities. In theory up north so I could afford more but in reality used to living in south east. Used to have idea of holiday property like this but since brexit would prefer to buy holiday place in France to keep my place in Europe.0

I don't drive so when hubby worked it was a bit difficult as the bus service wasn't very good - it doesn't exist now but hubby is retired so it's OK.
Crikey! You have found a bit of north Cambs more rural than S. Lincs? Interesting and, I would have thought, more expensive. I miss that area.0 -

Work as what though e.g. would you at least want to be within commuting distance of a reasonable-sized hospital? (which would enable you to rule out options like Barra...)
Well we work in mental health so that limits how rural we can go to a certain degree but not to hospital only areas!onwards&upwards wrote: »If you want to make friends you’re best off heading north!
I always think i’d like to live by the sea, so somewhere semi-rural enough to be green and not heavily polluted but within commuting distance of either Liverpool or Newcastle would be good. The Wirral maybe?
Totally agree except for the commuting distance part - we really don't want to be commuting into a city so would love to be somewhere rural that we can work in/nearbyphoebe1989seb wrote: »We both love our current location in very rural Carmarthenshire
We looked at Wales too but wondered about the language as we have two school age kids... do you speak Welsh? I know English is widespread but they actively seek Welsh speakers for jobs in NHS...MobileSaver wrote: »For me, rural Wales is the dream I'm living...
Ooh might be picking your brains sometime if you don't mind. OH loves Cumbriapinkteapot wrote: »We’ve done it! Moved in December from Essex to Cumbria purely for the love of it.0 -
This is OH's absolute dream but we worry about doing that move with two small kids  definitely on the list though! We did it 12 years ago.Retired and moved to the far north of Scotland. We lie in a rural Strath on a single track road . Our nearest neighbour is 1/2 mile away- apart from the sheep next door.
^^I'm so glad you said this - it has been our impression of the Broads but good to have it confirmed. But the joy is that the villages on the Broads are real working/living places all year round, so nothing like the theme park living in some other areas, where they're dead in the winter.
It's so difficult to choose when there are so many beautiful places and no certainty about what it would be like really to live in any of them!0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: London has its own charm I think - not beautiful in the same way as the rural places, and not right for us, but can absolutely see why people love to live there.Yep. In a previous job I used to drive about 1000 miles every weekend delivering firearms all over the UK in mostly rural locations. Every county has something stunning - except London
I'm surprised no-one has said Cornwall!0 -

The majority of it was shotguns for farmers and rifles for gamekeeping and competition shooting. ID and licenses fully checked at all times so all legal and above-board. Definitely one of my more interesting jobs though and I did get to drive the country end to end every few weeks without using the motorways much, the point of my post being that I can't think of anywhere in the country that I haven't driven within 30 miles of.Delvering firearms? What a horrifying thought, at least to me.0 -
I moved to Bournemouth 40 years ago and am now just down the road in Poole. It is a lovely place to live - but traffic can be very bad, especially in summer. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.0
