Haven't been on the thread in forever, will kick back in soon as we have just moved house, however in dire need of some tips...

We have a cupboard you access from the living room that goes under the stairs, which is carpeted and absolutely STINKS of weed.

I have been daily putting carpet deodoriser/cleaner down on it, and opening the cupboard door and back door to allow it to air out, but it seems as soon as we close the door overnight and during the day the next day, by the time we open it again it stinks again!

There's definitely nothing left in there, but I don't know what else to try as we can't have the cupboard door and back door open 24/7 and don't really want to be doing that on the days we have the kids around, but really want to make use of the storage space :(!

You ladies are fab with tips, so fingers crossed xxx

PS all my attempts to google are full of sites from people who smoke it trying to hide the smell, not quite what I need :rotfl:

My first thoughts are the previous occupants were brewing beer in there.. hops smells very much like weed. Second, there is a type of fungus (white-greeny yellow in colour) which smells very strongly of weed.. scrub the entire inside of the cupboard with an antifungal, paint it with antifungal stuff if needs be.. check UNDER the floor for any signs of actual damp and replace/repair before treating. Get a dehumidifier in the cupboard. The fungus can be very damaging to your health so needs properly treating.

Once it is dry it should help.. vinegar water is supposed to help but if the problem is the joists you can't get to those so easily.

and bin the carpet in there. Rotting carpet and underlay smells of weed too.. I have a place in my front room which smells the same..

  • Been quite busy here.

Had a deep conversation with Himself because he asked if I was planning to take the Humira that's been sitting in the fridge for nearly a fortnight or if I'd decided against it. I suggested we sat down (possibly his first hint that something was up).

As nicely as possible, and for once, asking him to let me speak first (he usually sits there mute, which drives me crazy, but for once I wanted him to wait), I worked up from how I feel physically up to The Point.

I told him that I'm scared to eat anything prepared by him. Partly because of the state of the kitchen, partly because of food hygiene issues/that he leaves stuff out uncovered/way past use by dates and I have no idea whether what's there has been out for ages and then put in the fridge or is uncovered next to a lifeforms evolving in the fridge, and that was what had made me hesitant to start (along with some rather awful images on the Internet of foot infections from people picking stuff up from little scratches walking on dirty floors barefoot when they've taken anti-TNF meds - and I have to be barefoot most of the time at the moment because of the flare up making shoes hurt).

It went OK. He likened it to how you keep things clean when you have a baby. Which is fair enough. And conveniently enough, straight after that conversation, I opened the fridge door to get milk and saw the state of it in there.

So, as he was dealing with dried washing, I was taking out dubious foods, pointing out that use by dates are important, that he might he OK eating something with a use by of May 8th, but I wasn't, found a pot of froth and fuzz at the back right next to my meds and cleaned the entire thing in about ten minutes - including discovering an opened pack of ham down the back of the salad drawer.

It's going to take a while, but the kitchen is gleaming right now.

I have cleaned the sewing machine and put it within easy reach with the accessories stored neatly in a basket directly underneath,
Made a throw from a quilt cover that was driving me nuts with the envelope/buttons 1/3 of the way up,
    Cleaned the bathroom,
    Cleaned the bathroom floor,
    Washed the bathroom bin,
    Descaled the loo,
    Dealt with wet knitwear,
    Put linens away,
Cleaned the fluff filter and condenser unit on the TD (the latter smelled like wet [strike] dog[/strike] cat with all the hair that had managed to get to it)

    We have,
Switched to a less annoying quilt cover,
Put privacy film on the back door to reduce the stress Idiot Cat seems to be under at night, which, judging by his mood today (a happily playful git and not sleeping until now, when he's usually staring out/at the back door by this time), is already a resounding success,

And Himself's given me my first injection. Which felt like a wasp sting, so I spent a good five minutes with an ice pack attached to me afterwards.

Oh, and I'm still alive, so I'm not allergic to it (he checked in on me every time he couldn't hear me for three hours after it).

Tomorrow, I think it'll be vacuuming and mopping the living room, along with a bit more organising. And getting my [strike] chin bristles[/strike] eyebrows done.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

    Morning all

I went to visit the cat and speak to the vet last night. Some positive signs but he’s not out of the woods yet. So he has to stay in the vets at least another 24 hours. There is going to an enormous bill at the end of this but I just want him home and well.

I didn’t manage much flying last night, finished the dailies and that was about it. I think this weekend will be catch up time. DH will be on call so we can’t go far anyway...

Today I have put a wash on, tidied dishes away, showered, dressed and breakfasted. On to paid stuff next.

Have a lovely day all x

    Morning

    I'm washed, dressed and breakfasted.

First WM load is pegged out and second load is swishing.

I've made the bed, fed the birds, put out some recycling and unpacked DS's overnight bag.

Before he left for work, conversation was had with DS about 'Mum's Taxi' requirements over the weekend.,, working around DS's wish to have a drink at his friend's son's christening on Sunday and DS's GF's inability to drive. Logistics have been solved - I now have three taxi runs at the weekend: one on Saturday, two on Sunday - one short and one long (I'll be waving to pigpen while I'm in the city ). I'd rather plan ahead than have it 'dropped' on me with a 'Mu-um', sheepish look. :D

Second load is ready to be pegged out.

    Take care

Bad Cat, I hope you get some good news about your cat soon. (((Hugs)))
Round, it sounds as though you're feeling better so well done for dealing with the counsellor and your pots.
Why on earth would anyone fence land that they didn't own? You're right, Kazwookie, that kind of thing does run and run, tediously. *sigh*

We have a new washing machine, not just new to me, but NEW! It's the first time in my life I've ever splashed out on one but needs must. It arrived yesterday while I was putting in a full day at the Foodbank, and OH did two loads immediately (it's been three weeks since the last one packed up ) and I've done another three. There's so much stuff pegged out the last load is in a queue of it's own, waiting for more stuff to come in. Such a relief to have a choice of clothes!

Now to deal with my desk.
    Better is good enough.

Thank you for all the GWS vibes for the cat, I have had a call from the vet and more signs of improvement are being seen. I will ‘visit’ again later on and have another discussion with the vets. It’s all still very worrying but there are positive signs.

I have channelled my worry into work productivity this morning and have cleared some stuff off the work list that has been hanging around for a while! I was helped by the fact that emails were quiet and no meetings... feels good to get things done though.

Just having lunch, wash from this morning brought in as it’s dry have just set a second load swishing, also did a quick vac of the downstairs. Although I feel like I’ve done hardly any flying this week the house is not too bad. Helped by the fact that DH has been away and only one cat so less fluff to hoover I think!

Back later, have a lovely afternoon xx

I pegged out the second load - then walked round to Dad's for a coffee. Not long after that it chucked it down - as we say round here.

Rain had stopped when I came home, so I left the washing out - and now it's raining again :(

HoneyBear - I'm certainly feeling better than I did this time last week, thank you xx

Hope no-one lives in the path of the damaged dam in Derbyshire.

SSDD23 the smell is likely to be in the carpet and walls, can you rip up the carpet and take it to the tip? then paint the walls?

I had a mind blank and forgot where this thread lives :rotfl:

I'll investigate a little further tomorrow when the kids are gone, we're only renting and it's the landlords that were here before, so a bit wary of mentioning why we might need to take up the carpet. Can't say they'd moan about painting the walls in there as they have marks all over anyway, but don't know where we stand with the carpet :)
