you have done something, you have opted for a job which will provide better finances so that you can finish your debt and start saving for the furture, all you've done this month is pressed pause.............once you get the new pay in and realise you've survived imagine how good it will feel making an overpayment then ........

keep on with the good decisions and enjoy the festivies!

Thanks BD80s again, you are right. I think when you really get into the debt busting zone, everything is geared around getting rid as fast as you can, so to then press pause (even though you know its the right thing to do) feels really frustrating. To be honest, its good that im even thinking like this. Last year id spent nearly £2k on xmas, mostly on credit cards, and blown a £6k bonus on a holiday and some rubbish that probably never got used and definitely isnt memorable! This year, i had a budget of £350 for presents (really large family) and come in below that, so you are right, i need to keep looking at the mind frame shift and realise that this has changed my life.... the only way is up! :j

  • You have savings, you have paid for Christmas without adding to debt and bought a car. The debt will start to reduce again once you are in the new job and know your salary schedule.

When do you leave the current job?

  • Leaving date 30th January. They are making me work the full 3 months. Asked again today if there was any chance of leaving after xmas and they said 'no chance'. So annoying as im literally sitting every day with nothing to do as no one is now including me in anything!

  • Little MSE update - Topcashback is now at £64.92 and I have cashed £10 out of shoppix today, one poll still £1.20 away from £30.

I have brought a new pair of trousers today, but its all budgeted for ready for a night out on the 28th Dec.Im just hoping they will fit as they only do them in S/M or M/L, i always find these a pain to gauge. I did use top cashback on it too, so even if they dont fit i would of recouped the postage nearly with my cashback.

  • Hello, just wanted to say that you have done so well! I have been reading your diary along the way for the past few months. I could not get my old user name to log back in, so made a fresh new one. It’s been around 3 years since I have been on here, but always a frequent reader.

I love it how you have really stuck to your pots and money allocating. I have now started to this aswell, but unsure how much to give to each pot? so just going to give the next few months a try, and see if I can get a good balance along the way.

Excited for you about your new job, it’s only a few weeks away, and before your know it you will be taking the next step and chapter.

I have topcash back, and you just reminded me about my funds (I have never actually taken any money out before) so need to look at that.

How infuriating. If you have no work it makes no sense to enforce the 3 month notice period.

  • Awww thank you, I love getting messages like this, it’s a funny thing really because When I write I only feel like I’m rambling so it’s nice to hear that someone is interested!

With the pots, it’s taken my a while to get it right and even now I sometimes have to re do it a couple of times. What I’ve found helps me is that I change my budget every month depending on social things I have on etc. So every month is different. I think a lot of it is just trial and error!

  • What a result!
Last week i complained about a bank, not closing an account that i had requested to be done so, 3 years ago, the complaints team have just called me, closed and back dated the account and transferred me £150 for the inconvenience!

  • Great result and an extra £150 either to savings or debt repayment.

I totally agree on the pots that sometimes it pays to be flexible. There Are certain pots I put the same in every month based on previous year so gifts and cars pot I tend to up it by 10% as the cars get older so there is a buffer for additional repairs. House and holidays are movable though depending on what we book and what house projects are next on our list. I have a base figure though to cover insurance, boiler and gas fire services and general maintenance like window cleaning etc.
