So spent the afternoon looking at my budgets and trying to forecast whats coming out vs what will be coming in. As expected i am going to have a short fall along the way and cross over, and i have a feeling the credit card will be needed to bridge the gap at some point. However, with a tax rebate from my company car, and tax lowering as im handing it back from next week. I will be able to pay this back pretty quick, and shouldn't throw me too far out on my DFJ. I haven't used my CC since July, and although it pains me to do so, i know that i may need to if my savings from this month arnt enough. I also know that actually if i go super frugal for January and February then it shouldn't impact too much. Nervous times, but i know its just a stepping stone to a happy life and so actually im going to just embrace it and not beat myself up too much about the step back.
Anyway, enough rambling (again) Happy Friday! xMy debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:0 -
Maybe you should work out your budget for the next three months and see where you are at the end of that time frame rather than looking at the shortfall in January when you switch jobs. A change of job and pay date would have an impact on anyone's finances so I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe your debt free date will actually be earlier rather than later once your new salary kicks in. Even if it is delayed a bit though, it is for a good reason, as you say a stepping stone to a new life. It would be great if you didn't have to go back to your old job after Christmas.0

Thanks MoneyWhizz, sorry I wasn’t clear, I have looked approx two months ahead so far, working out my new salary on the salary calculator. However, I’m going to take your advice and do a little further to the third month. I think the DFD will move back, but as you say it’s all for a good reason and so I’m going to roll with it, keeping in control and not getting anxious over it because I’m the long term it’s for the best!My debt free journey, diary and all! The good thing is, you've got time to plan. You might have to take a step back / adjust the DFD date / use a little credit but you know about this and you can work it into your budget.
My current debt (not including mortgage) came about due to a safety issue and I didn't have enough in my emergency fund so I had to borrow to cover it. I was debt free so, annoying as it was to have to get the loan, I was able to somewhat plan it.Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
Mortgage today = £161,690.76
300 271 payments to go.House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

Girlsatplay, absolutely and you know what, life happens sometimes, i feel in control, and can address it. If anything it is showing that im thinking much more carefully and adding these incidents into my budget as opposed to recklessly spending on credit without a second thought.
The first £96 went on the credit card yesterday for my car insurance.
2 days till payday, could not come quick enough, although i can get through and will not be using my credit card for anything other than the planned spend that will be paid back when the tax rebate comes through.
On other news, a really bad day at school for my son yesterday, i turned up to pick him up and he was in hysterics, the out of school club where trying to make him sit in a corner for 10 mins, for time out. Doing that to a child with a possible ADHD diagnosis is just ridiculous way of punishment. I have spoken to the manager today and to be honest, was really quite brutal. I asked them to put a plan in place to support my son and getting through this particularly stressful point in all our lives. I also pointed out that these play leaders have just had training in ADHD and so i do not understand how they can be getting this so wrong, and as a paid for child care service, if it carries on i will be making an official complaint to ofsted.
Im so stressed and fed up with it all. Doctors appointment with him tomorrow, hopefully knowing we have a plan will lift some of the stress. My debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:0 -
Small update from me, and feeling a little calmer now. I have just had a heads up from my payroll department. My tax has changed in time for this pay, and between a tax rebate and not having my company car, I have been paid an extra £1k this month. This means that although my CC debt is going to rise by about £200, I will be able to get through my gap in work, and gap in pay, plus the up front car fees/insurance without getting in too much trouble. So plan of action, is stash all the 'left over' money which would usually go on CC over payment, pay the car fees (first payment will come out before i get my first payment and car tax, plus £30 for the start of my maintenance pot) and hold on to it until i have my under payment in January. Although this is going to be tight, I feel so much better that i can make it through now. Normal debt busting will resume at the end of February. I have to admit, i am so glad i have learnt the MSE skills now, best time of year to know how to budget ey!!My debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:0

Sounds like you have the money and car side organised for your change in job. Normal debt busting can be resumed when you are on your new salary. A cushion is definitely a good idea so great you will have an extra £1k this month. Your situation now is so much better MSE than last year though I am sure.
Annoying about the out of school club and your son. How upsetting for you both. Hopefully the doctor will suggest a plan tomorrow. Hi ES, I hope you are well?
It wont be £1k as the first payment for the car comes out, and the insurance etc, before i recoup it from the new company so will be about £500 stashed, but it does mean that i can have a nice stress free Christmas and now not have to worry about dreaded January!
I actually pick up the car tomorrow after the doctors appointment.
Im hoping the doctor can run through processes and next steps,i know then that will finally calm some of this anxiety and i can start relaxing a little bit!My debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:0
