  • Belated Merry Christmas. Just had a catch up with your latest news. Great run of little extra money bonuses that will help with your extra pot of money to help you over the transition period. What a pain that your employer is making you work till the end of January.

Great to see you giving others budgeting advice, who would have thought it a few months ago! Sounds like you could make yourself quite a bit of money on eBay, could you not use January to do that while you are not under so much pressure from work?

The eBay tips post is great but I don't think you are supposed to increase the postage cost to cover the Ebay fee. I think you are supposed to cover that from the overall sale.

There's a very helpful eBay forum section here if you want to check.

I shifted to Facebook marketplace recently for selling as there are no fees there. Worked very well for us.

Well done on the bank reclaiming. Have a great new year.

    Loved the ebay tips too.

  • Wow great result on the bank charges being reclaimed. Your EF must be over £1k now? Presumably you still have one more payday to come from your current job if they are making you work until end of January then your new salary pays out in February? I would be using any free time you have to do surveys, plan out finances etc if they are insisting on making you work out your notice even though you have no work to do.

Sounds like you must have a nice stash of stuff up in your loft to declutter and sell. New year, new start. Looking forward to seeing how quickly you can get shot of the last bits of debt. You have done brilliantly this year though. New life indeed.

  • Happy New Year All!

Thank you all for the lovely messages.

So its a new year, and a new decade, how exciting!

Money wise, im still in budget. Ive got nearly £1k in emergency savings to cover my cross over from work. 2 and a half weeks to go and i cannot wait to get out of here!!!

Confession time : The credit card has been used again, £26. My son had ripped a hole in his school trainers so needed to replace them, i did not want to risk breaking into the cross over savings so used the card, then as soon as my pay goes back to a normal regular wage it will be paid off. Im really looking forward to going on the debt busting mission again! This year WILL be my year!! (finally lol)

  • OK so ive just done my budget for this month...... So as you know they are delaying my pay date till the 30th. I usually get paid on the 15th. So im going two weeks extra that I wouldn't usually, i think i may be able to just about squeeze my December pay through, although it will mean im back to spaghetti on toast again!!

When i do get my final pay, i will have some deductions, which amount to me being £250 short. Now i really really want to keep my savings intact, and so im going to do my best to go full frugal style again, and squeeze everything i possibly can.

When i start my new job, my first pay from them will be a week short (as i have a week off before i start) therefore its going to be another tight month but not as bad as this one is going to be as obviously my overall pay will increase and i will be receiving my car allowance.

I have £60 waiting to clear on TCB, and im still waiting for £30 from one poll. I need to get my !!!! in gear and get ebaying to make up the short fall. If i can get through these next couple of months without touching the £1k emergency savings i will be over the moon, it means that when my pay gets back to normal, i can debt bust with a proper cushion and really start to do this properly! I cant tell you how proud of myself i will be, ive never in my entire life saved more than £100 or so (awful i know!)

Over this week, im going to re jig and re look at the budget and see how much i can squeeze the short fall down to, but hey, you know me now, i love a challenge!!

Ha, the sign of someone who really has the bug. Save up the money you need to see you through and then you don't want to use it. What a shift in mindset you have had.

So the challenge is to use this month when theres not much pressure from work and get obeying all that stuff you have in your loft. Sounds like a bit of treasure trove and I bet you can make enough to cover the shortfall and start off your new job in a great position financially. Your diary really is an inspiration to others on the debt free road.
  • Aww thanks MoneyWhizz, its nice to hear from you, i hope you are well and enjoyed your break.

Yes, i went through a bit of it last night. I found Chanel makeup, brand new and boxed, a bag of Ralph Lauren kids clothes, some Nike special addition football boots. Crazy that i treated my money like that really!! However, good start to the ebay challenge lol.
