  • Great hear you are still sticking to the budget, in fact squeezing extra debt payments out of it. It's not easy but you have obviously got yourself into the right mindset which is the key to succeeding in your debt journey. All good in your life right now with the new guy and a second interview. Look forward to hearing how it goes.
  • Thanks Moneywhizz, everything is ok. I’m a pretty cautious person especially when it comes to dating but everything so far feels ok!

I just want this debt to be gone, I have to say if anyone ever needs to learn how to handle their finances a debt busting journey is the one! However, small or relative the debt is, just going through this process is such an eye opener!

The weekend has been a very quiet one, with no spends other than the budgeted food shop that came in at £37. However I have noticed something has gone wrong with my food budget pot as it seems a week out. I need to go back through and find out what’s happened!

Interest has gone onto the credit card bringing my debt owing to £1646 ish.

I really need my hair cut and coloured, it costs £50. I was thinking I could get it done out of the over payments next month, so it’s nice for xmas and my birthday. I havnt had it done for nearly 8 months!!! The guilt of spending the money whilst I still have debt is a very big one lol!

Anyway enough rambling at 4.25am, have a great day all xx

I think it is a good idea to get your hair done out of any underspends next month. You have to live whilst on this journey and as you say it would be nice to feel good for Xmas and your birthday. I would not say a hair cut and colour is frivolous spending if you are not having it done every month.

  • Makes me feel better! Thank you. Just feels spending £50 on that when I can spend £50 on the debt is a step back, but you are right as I don’t think I can get away with it much longer lol!

You're lucky to be in a position to pay back your debt so quickly (I know it doesn't really feel like that to you). Most of us are here for the long haul so we build treats into our budgets. I get my hair done every couple of months. I budget for that and I don't allow myself to feel guilty. Yes, the debt would go down quicker but I couldn't spend the next 4 years not having my hair done to the detriment of my mental health. I like my hair looking nice and I would only cut that out if I was starving to death or couldn't pay my mortgage/council tax.

Get your hair done and love it! :D

  • I agree, you need to be able to live while paying off this debt. I can't imagine you going back to your reckless spending of the past so go ahead and treat yourself and enjoy it.

I have my hair done about every six weeks. Costs about £35 for a cut and colour but it is my only extravagance. I try to put the money for it away every week from underspends. It makes me feel better about myself and I think that's really important. You really do have to give yourself a little treat, something that makes you feel better every now and again. I seriously doubt that once you've cleared this debt your going to start spending recklessly because you've changed your mindset. Have your hair done and enjoy it.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.
