  • You've made the best of the circumstances you were given and you're instilling a work ethic into your child too, he'll see that you've worked hard to provide for him.
Ignore pity faces from other mums; a lot of stay at home mums worry about not working, full time workers worry about too much working, part timers worry about not giving enough time to either!
I find a lot (not all obviously) of mums fit the narrative to suit themselves, they've made their life choices and anyone who differs is doing it wrong. It's rare to find a mum who doesn't work at all... if you work evenings and weekends to avoid childcare, you're missing vital family time.... if you work school hours, you miss going to school plays, sports days etc....if you can afford not to work, you're not paying into your pension or maintaining your employability. No ideal solution :o

You are 100% right!!!! Spot on

I am so angry! So this morning i woke from a credit monitoring email detailing that pay pal credit has reported that my account is in arrears. I set up a direct debit with them to go out on the 15th of each month. They did not take the payment and rescheduled the date to the 15th October. I presumed this was because of a cut off point of when the DD was set up and thought nothing of it. I have had no email for payment demands, not even a notification to say that payment had failed, nor did they even attempt to take the payment from my bank despite the fact i have an email confirming it was set up correctly. I have just complained to them and sent them a copy of my credit file, so hopefully they can retract it, but companies like this i dont hold much hope! I know i dont even want credit any more, but i do want a mortgage in a few years so the last thing i need is a mark on my account especially when ive actually never missed any payments. So upset!!!

On the plus side, my fuel did last until today so only topped up this morning from the friday budget. However, i have run out of washing powder so will need to do a top up shop which is annoying.

hey ho, 13 days and counting!!!!!

  • That is annoying, hopefully they can sort it for you. I had something similar a couple of years ago with Barclaycard, and they took it off no problem as it wasn't my fault.
  • Help please my advisers (again lol)

Ive just been offered a pre approved, capital one 0% balance transfer card for 6 months, but says guaranteed APR of 34.9% with a 3% transfer fee.

does this mean if i transfer my balance to this i pay 0% interest for 6 months?

sorry to sound so dumb but i have never done a balance transfer before!

The outstanding balance is - £1770.20

    Thanks in advance. x

You need to add on 3% to that amount and only use it if you know you can pay the full amount off within 6 months
  • Yes, 0% and then goes up after 6 months. There'll be a transfer fee though, so make sure it's worth it

  • Given the quite high interest rate on your credit cards it would probably be worth it. Do you think you will be able to pay it off within the 6 months?

Hey MW, yes i think i will, ive done a projected budget and if i am super strict it will work. I was thinking though that actually that's the first time ive had an offer like that, so if worst comes to the worst actually there maybe another deal in 6 months, might be worth the risk.

As I understand it was this one of the cards which was charging 38%? If so the monthly interest is approximately £56 on the current balance. Obviously that goes down as the monthly repayments go on to it and I am not sure how much you are paying at the moment on it.

If the balance transfer fee is £53.10 (3%) then this will be recouped in just one month as this is less than one months interest so yes I would take it. Even if you do not clear it within the 6 months 34% is less than 38%. That advice changes if I am wrong on the interest rate.

Sorry about the paypal mix up. Hope it gets sorted if you appeal it.

I have re read your diary and see that the existing credit card is actually at 31% so redone the maths. One months interest is £45.72 on £1770. The balance transfer fee is £53.10 so transferring it would mean you have £1823.10 on the credit card. Repaying it in 6 months means a £303.85 monthly repayment which seems a big ask with your depleted emergency fund and Christmas coming up but I still think it is worth doing. Just get it as small as you can by the time the 6 months is up and hopefully with CC3 and maybe Paypal gone by then as well you will get another deal. If not the balance will be small enough it should not be an issue.
