  • small win today for me, for the first time in years all my credit cards have 'no recent transactions' on them for 2 statement months! This is massive for me, I have not, not used my credit cards for years, and this is all because i couldn't last the month without running out of money!! I think the more i work through this journey the more im realising how dangerous and bad my money habits were, thinking now, if i would of lose my job i would not be able to even pay one months worth of bills - if thats not motivation i dont know what is! Happy Tuesday all x

Thanks RunningLaura, to be honest i had a stroke of luck with the compensation which really helped, i suspect the real work is going to start when the b%$£&*d loan is gone, because it would be too easy to fall into old ways of spending. This diary and site full stop has really helped with motivation. When did your journey start?

  • Coming into some extra £ is lucky, but putting towards your debts is a sign of massive progress!

Well, I got it down when we bought our house... but maternity leave added up some debts, a balloon payment on the car and a credit card that my husband didn't tell me about have all culminated in a bit of a 2nd LBM for us. So we are starting with September to dramatically cut our leisure and food spending and hoping to get into the black as soon as possible!

Maternity leave was massive for me, I stupidly saved nothing despite having a well paid job, had a leach for a partner and got myself massively into debt. That's when all these issues really started progressing for me although i was never that good with money in the first place!

Good Luck with your journey, you've done it before so I know you can do it again! A baby is a great motivation. xx

  • Same for me as well - went into my first mat leave totally unprepared and naive - no savings, no plan and no clue. I ended up with payday loans and all sorts and it spiralled from there for me. Just about to go on my second mat leave in 2 months and I'm hoping just being aware of my budget etc will make a massive difference - fingers crossed!

I was exactly the same!! had payday loan one after the other to try and keep a roof over our heads, went back to work after 5 months to try and sort things out, and then ended up trying to find £1100 per month for a child minder and get the pay day loans paid off. Absolutely ruined my experience to be honest and some actions i deeply regret, if i ever do it again i will save, save save!!

Good Luck on you 2nd mat leave, not that you will need it now im sure! xx
