  • It is something to think about, but you should know that taking a cash advance from a credit card may well reflect badly on your credit report. I think it might be better just paying off the loan as quickly as you can. You have already been thinking about ways of making Christmas less expensive than usual so it may not have as much impact on your ability to pay down the loan as you think. You would save a bit of money on interest but it could be that you lose a bit of the urgency that you feel to get rid of the loan. Lots to consider so that you make the right decision for you.
  • I've used cash advances from credit cards before and, while it wasn't great for my credit score, having fewer debts overall actually improved my credit score. But yes, you should keep the urgency of paying off the loan when the debt is on the card if you do decide to go down that route, especially as that interest rate is still really bad.
  • I didn’t realise about the credit score effect, I don’t want to dent that in anyway considering it’s not great already!!

I think I’m going to just keep paying the loan down and stick to the original plan!

iPad that I had to relist has sold for £110 so that will be posted today. £60 for my sons football boots for his birthday present, the rest will be thrown at the loan! I have another tablet up for £45, 2 watchers but no bids yet so may have to lower the price.

Legoland payment is sorted for his birthday treat, I’ve got £121 in TopCashback so once that clears that will be for the tickets and a packed lunch for the day!

  • Good Morning All

What a slog today is, feel so tired at the moment and there is no real reason for it! was lovely to see my boy go into year 2 today, i cant believe how quickly they grow up!

Ive got a date on Saturday, im rubbish at dating, have such little free time hate wasting it on dodgy dates, so hoping this one is a good one lol!

Money saving today - Budget has been re done, i noticed that there was little bits of miscellaneous spends this month that didnt really fit from a pot, so ive re done it and opened yet more pots! Ive found this piggy bank method has really helped me get a grips on the spending. Ive stuck to it religiously and really think this is the method that is going to help me, probably forever more!

Good news on the ebay front, the second tablet sold today for £42, that will be sent tomorrow. Total of £153.35 in my pay pal account - annoying that its all pending for 21 days!. My plan for this money is to put some in my EF ( i took my sons bday present money out of this, so its to replace rather than add!) and throw the rest at the loan. Im aiming to get this loan cleared in 4 months, i will then move on to CC3 and paypal, get them cleared off and start on the larger CC.

  • Happy Friday All

So another easy jet drama, the last payment hasnt turned up and so i had to spend another 2 hours on the phone to them yesterday trying to sort it out. Anyway, after lots of towing and frowing, its finally sorted and they are transferring £259. This should reach in the next few days and will be sent straight to the loan.

As i said, ive re done my budget. This month I am going to send a further £140 to the loan which will now bring it down to in the 500's. A couple more big pushes and that will be gone. Plan is to then move over to CC3 and paypal. These should only take a couple of months to clear. After that onto CC1 and 2. Overall i think by the end of this month, my overall debt will be down to about £2,500 which will be amazing!!

I feel like ive been a little lapsed with my spending this week. No NSD and brought 2 bottles of wine. Ive felt like i needed it this week, but as id spent all my food budget on muscle food i did rob it from another pot. Naughty i know amazing how you start considering so much about purchases that before i never would of thought twice about! Im still in two minds as to whether the muscle meat idea has payed off, i mean the freezer is seriously stocked but it will only work if i can make it last the month. I probably would of been wiser purchasing at the start of the month rather than blowing all remaining months budget on it 2 weeks in, but hey we live and learn ey!

Anyway, next week is a new week. Im going to aim for 3 NSD to lead me into getting paid on Friday, ive over paid my sky bill so i will have an extra £50 ish pounds left in bank after budget pots have gone over to Monzo. This may get thrown at the loan too, but im also not sure that i shouldn't have a buffer in my account. However, i have changed every single DD and Standing order to pay day so i really shouldn't have any surprises. (sorry thinking out load now, as you can tell im in two minds!!)

This month i have a lot of family birthdays 4 in total. One of the birthday dinner my mum has kindly said i can use her clubcard points so thats handy. Ive also sorted all the presents already. I do have 2 big social events, and one big weekend away. My usual entertainment budget will not cover the spends for these so i need to think of more sales to cover it. Luckily i found 2 child car seats, top of the range, that could be sold which i think would get another £70-£100. Cant believe i forgot i even had them!

My ebaying and TCB is doing well, both apps now have £280 in them. This will go straight into my emergency fund, with a small loan over payment. I had to borrow my sons bday present money out of the EF because Paypal wont clear in time.

Anyway, ill stop babbling on now, busy day at work today. Im looking forward to doing my month round up next Friday (how sad is that!!).

  • side note - does anyone else think it feels like you have more money when you budget? really strange but for me to get to the end of the month with money full stop is amazing, let alone have nearly £300 left in pots. It feels like my money is going so much further, and apart from the popping out for pub dinners etc, i do not feel like im particularly going without at all!

  • Totally agree on the budgets. I've gladly paid for YNAB because it's saving me hundreds every month. It's mostly seeing numbers per category in black and white that stops me from spending wildly, rather than looking at my account, seeing a balance of say £500 and think "that's plenty for this month, let's check out my amazon wishlist" :rotfl:
