What small DFW things will you do w/c 8th July?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Morning Campers,
Well Mr F is back at work today, so I need to get back to routines. On today's list:
*Peg out overnight laundry, so another quick 30 mins at 30 deg wash and reset timer for more cheap tariff laundry tonight.
*Tweak meal plans. Was gifted courgettes from friend's allotment yesterday & aim to use them. Pasta, I think.
*Update budgets & move funds around.
    *Email meter readings to solicitor.
    *Bake bread.
    *Bake cheese oatcakes.
    *Clear emails & admin.
*Continue decluttering challenge. 8 items to go today.
*More research on a bday gift I need to order.
*Free fitness will be a massive sweeping of back courtyard & possibly also washing down doors & windowsills plus a brisk walk to postbox.
*Plant dahlia cutting gifted by friend.
*Check for surveys. I only need about another £3 for another cash-out on YouGov.
    *Update DFW diary
*Deal with stair basket & filing.
I think I will be on edge all week in case the house we (sis & me) are selling falls through at the 11th hour, so am planning to keep myself really busy so I can 'switch my head off'.
OK, m'ducks..... Onwards with the peg bag!

  • Good morning :-)

We're just starting a new phase in our DFW journey. We've done the struggling to make tiny overpayments but really just treading water bit, and now we're moving onto taking control with a DMP.

    This week's plans:

    1. Keep tweaking our new budget to make sure that we've covered absolutely everything before we set the DMP up properly.

    2. Go through the carousel cupboard and freezer, pull everything out, and use it to make next week's shopping a bit cheaper. (I used to do this at the start of every month, but fell out of the habit, and now we have all kinds of random odds and ends in there).

    Morning all :)
Thanks for starting us off Purps :)
Welcome to Line in the Sand - good luck with setting up your DMP (I hope you are using one of the free debt charities and not paying a commercial company to do this?). I hope you stick with us :)
    Today's list:
Try to resurrect a pair of dry clean only trousers that were bundled in with my brother's washing yesterday  - I never bothered to check every item, I should have done, but didn't even know he possessed any dry clean only items, it is usually the same old things :( Well, one thing is for certain, he would never have paid £6 or more to get them dry cleaned, but had I known I wouldn't have chucked them in a 40 degree wash  He isn't bothered, only came from a CS anyway and he only got them for work. He didn't have a clue they were to be dry cleaned only and said there is no way he would pay for that (when I can wash them for free ). Anyway I don't feel so bad about it now, but it is still annoying!
Food will be from home, but may do a small shop, will check if I need to go today - probably not! Almost out of toothaste, so bought that, some bread and some butter from Icyland. Used some vouchers from RM surveys that covered most of the cost :D Will need salad bits from Mr S tomorrow though!
Pick up a parcel from sorting office Done, have left it in the car, so must go and fetch it in!
Post an ebay sale using a free stamp from RM surveys :)Done
Ought to go and sort out sales unit Done
Must first persuade OH to drive me into town to do all these things  I will be so glad to get my independence back! Another week should do it! I want to start walking again too! I am getting better, yay :j:j (though not sure about doing these just yet :rotfl::rotfl:) Planning to walk into town tomorrow to go to Mr S :)

The front garden will need watering. As I can't full carry watering cans atm, this means dragging the hose through the house, which is a bit of a pain, though perfectly doable. Not done yet, as it looked like it might rain - and then didn't :(

The first garlic bulbs were dried enough to detach the stalks and rub off the roots, so did those. Still loads more to do, but they need to dry a bit more first - fab crop this year :T Must find a good way to store them....

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Morning all,

Thanks for this weeks thread PF.
Welcome - line in the sand.
HK, Thinking of you this week.

    Todays list
    # 3 loads washed on the quick 30 degree wash and hung on the line outside to dry done
    # gym and refilled water there done
    # home via aldee with my list (and I stuck to it!) done
    # brunch - a use up omelette -bit of gammon in there and had it with spinach, cheese, nut salad.
    # check banking done and moved some money around which should have been straight forward but needed a call to the bank to sort in the end
    # record mileage
    # continue decluttering - house looks a right mess at the minute but its been a busy weekend and we've not been home so its just been left since Friday Lots more done but still lots to do tomorrow, I currently have a bag for the cs, a bag for the fabric recycling point, a bag of coat hangers to go the supermarket, a bag of batteries for the recycling point, a couple of old pans that I've had replaced by lakeland for being faulty these need to go to the tip. House doesn't look much better yet but its a work in progress.
    # make families lunches for tomorrow done
    # cook 2 chickens together later for tonights salad, will give my parents some chicken too. May as well have a full oven! done

Thats my starter, theres loads I'd like to get done but the tidying is going to take quite a while I suspect. Take care all.
Also gone through ds's pajamas including the ones ready to hand me down to ds2, all sorted and several things gone in to the cs bag
Sorted through gift wrap box and re-used some paper for a couple of gifts.
Was given a couple of gifts in gift bags for my birthday, I've put the bags away in the gift box to re use.
Broke my kitchen clock when I was extending my sweeping brush and it fell to the floor and broke, I won't bother replacing it as it was a loud ticking clock which annoyed dh anyway!
After Dawn mentioned about putting a cookery book in the food bank collection, I thought about going through my toiletries cupboard and there were some shave gels/creams that dh stopped using (after I'd bought them on offer) as he grow a beard, and some shampoo we'd had delivered ages ago on a Mr T delivery where they'd sent a shampoo rather then then 2 in 1 we'd ordered, we hadn't realised at the time of delivery and we don't like it so I've put these in a bag ready to pop in the food bank collection point next time I'm passing! I love this thread for the ideas I get from you all :A

Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Hello! :hello:
I have survived the marking period - 6 weeks older, 6 weeks more exhausted and 6 weeks of hard earned cash waiting to come in and help me out of the continuing nightmare that is the sorting the ownership of the house out.
There has been survival, but no small things - tea and toast and takeaway for my kids, but I'm just about ready to go again.
Sorry I've missed HK's surgery arriving - hope all is well there.

Glad you are ok CCL - hope you get a rest, and house stuff is resolved, soon.
1LL, good idea re the toiletries - I am sure I have some that won't get used, will have to investigate tomorrow. Feeling inspired by Foxgloves and her personal decluttering challenge!
