Why is he still living at home with mummy?
Perhaps saving up a deposit for a house. Plenty of people on here have posted about doing the same, it's very much an expert "moneysaving" thing to do, so fits right in with the ethos of this site, viz "blagging" cheap / free things, like rent from family.

If he's not capable, or inclined, to look after himself do you really want to take on the responsibility of looking after him for the rest of his life?

I would want him to spend long enough living on his own for him to realise how much work it is to keep a household running. At the moment, his mother does everything and, if he and LoisGriffin move in together, he won't have a clue - the fridge and the cupboards magically fill up with food; meals just appear ready-cooked; dirty clothes wash themselves; new clothes appear in the house; etc.

Our kids were more involved in the family chores when they were five than this man!

I'd gauge it on whether or not HE was prepared to say anything to her. Of course he hates conflict - you wouldn't really want to be with someone who actively seeks it out, would you? - but if he's not prepared to stick up for you and tell her to knock it off, because YOU are HIS choice, then he's not worth it.

This isn't just living with parents to save a deposit though is it? It's a grown man letting his mummy buy all his clothes and cook all his meals. Red flag.

Laid back attitude - are you sure he's not just a people pleaser, saying what she wants to hear, saying what you want to hear?

Living at home to save up is one thing, still having your washing done, clothes bought and din dins cooked for you by mummy is quite another. It reminds me of an old sketch from Goodness Gracious Me, in which two Indian mothers compete for how babied their grown up sons are, "my son is completely helpless!"

I've known two friends with failed relationships with men who had never lived away from home. One guy was genuinely puzzled as to why his girlfriend wasn't automatically ironing his shirts for him.

You obviously grew up in a very different home from me. My mother did all the cooking, all the laundry etc. No-one else cooked in HER kitchen. I moved out at 19 and coped fine though.

    Oh and "din dins"? Really?
