Is it just women who get caught up with the whole "fairy tale wedding"?

I wanted a traditional wedding when I was younger, mainly because I was raised that way. But as I've got older I've stopped caring so much. Having attended several weddings over the years and watched most of the those marriages deteriorate and end in either divorce or worse, I no longer care about marrying anyone. Going through a LTR break up is painful enough. I don't think I could handle divorce.
I've realised there is a strong correlation between how quickly you marry / how much you spend and how likely you are to get divorced / end up miserable. And I'd rather not tie up my finances with anyone just to lose half of it when the honeymoon period is over (yeah, I'm a teeny bit cynical). Many people seem to be in such a panic to just be married that they don't really consider who they are marrying and whether they are really that compatible. They just focus on the wedding itself and having the status of 'married'. I've known people in my friends and family circle to get married after barely a year of dating and then deeply regret that decision soon after. But they wanted to 'be married' and settled for the first person that asked.
I've also known many people that admitted they married for money and a nice lifestyle, knowing full well that they had no real love for their spouse. That put me off a bit. I've heard that far too many times now and although it mainly seems to be women, I can't help but feel wary of a man doing the same to me.
The best and longest relationships I've witnessed are between couples who took a long time getting to know one another and then decided to just spend their lives together out of love rather than a legally bound contract. Those couples have what I consider to be the perfect relationship and appear far happier and healthier than the married ones.
If I met someone who was adamant they wanted to marry, then I'd probably have a very simple wedding and just cheat by photoshopping in all the stupidly expensive 'stuff'!
