You're right.
Just basic Sky TV at £32.60 pm (no movies no sport).
And just switched standard BB to Plusnet for £18.99 pm. 6mbps is plenty fast enough for our needs*
Were not big TV watchers or streaming or gaming. Although, currently under a blanket watching snooker on BBC2. Yankee candle lit, glass of prosecco to hand.
Rock and roll.😎
*Apparently copper wiring is being ripped out round here in 2025, so fiber BB will eventually be our only option. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

We are not great squirrellers either when it comes to Tech. £31 a month on my phone and £35 on DH and £42 for the Sky package but no movies or sport on that but we do like Sky Q. We tend to upgrade our phones every 3 years so last year is usually sim only and 2 years on a contract. We also pay for Amazon Prime but use our daughters Netflix account and son in laws Apple music one so a bit of a saving there. Two high tech Smart TVs too but our Ipads are about 4 years old and the laptops were upgraded recently just by changing the type of hard drive so they are faster so that was a cheaper fix than new laptops given they are about 5 years old.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I did consider "Hi-Tech, Slow-Techie" for my LEJoG handle earlier in the year.....standards to maintain, etc 🤣

We have 1 smart TV and one dumb one that is nearly as deep as it is wide. We kept it so we could watch something else when our daughter had friends round but it rarely happens. iPads are pretty recent though and OH has a new iPhone 13, but my 8 is fine. No Sky but we do have Prime, Netflix and Disney+ (although that is free atm)I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

It's dumb, but it's not THAT old!!🤣 2009 IIRC.
It's still a slim (ish) 37" HD Panasonic, with later added sound box, which we can Bluetooth too.
It's a cracking picture to be fair. Better than I've seen on some other HD TVs.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Don't most TVs have boxes (sky, roku etc) so it doesn't matter if the TV is smart or not?
I think we pay less than £25 per month total for our 5 mobile contracts after incentives/cashback with data packages of 8, 15, 20, 20 and unlimited. We do buy the handsets separately though.
No sky either here, nowtv/netflix/disney+ when they are super cheap or free otherwise just youview and the free catchups. Don't really have time to watch much TV although the kids each tend to 'quad screen' (TV/streaming movie on the big screen, gaming on the PC monitor, youtube/ticktok on a tablet and insta-snap on their phones) - I wonder why ADHD is on the rise?I think....0 -
One of the 2 laptops we no longer needed was still running Windows 7!
Windows 7! We're still typing on an XP laptop (does need a new battery though)

Love that we can pause something on one TV, fire up the 96" projector TV & carry on watching! I believe you can take it on holiday and it acts as if you're still at home. Handy for us square-eyes who do watch a lot of TV/films/series!LHW99 said:One of the 2 laptops we no longer needed was still running Windows 7!Windows 7! I still run a relatively important little Win7 vm in order to use Quicken2000 for our accounts. If it ain't broke, etc!!Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1 -
i was about to post smugly on our relative lack of tech.
One dumb TV for the family.
5 x basic giffgaff monthly contracts. Work mobile for me. 2nd hand handsets. Old laptops / PCs.
Then I remembered my garage full of fancy racing bicycles.11
