There was an approved food shop near my work and no-one went in it and it closed about 9 months later, There were crisps 10 months after the BB date, Eaten crisps 6 weeks after at home and they was very little crunch in them.

Probably because of folks like you constantly harping on about them.

Alerting a staff member is one thing.

Alerting a manager is another, as clearly the OP was upset about this.

But actually calling the customs services to report this?! I’ve given up on humanity.

I understand that Asda are not breaking any laws, but many customers refuse to buy out of date food regardless of what it is.

So if you know they're not breaking any laws, why bang on at them about it then?
Who cares if 'many' customers refuse to buy them - shocker, Asda have many many customers passing through each day. Someone will want them.

I'm glad I left retail.....

Yeah, Asda do sell a lot of stuff past it's sell by date. I know it's sort of sneaky but if it's in the clearance section, there's either something wrong with the packaging or it's almost / out of date. I always make sure I check the dates before I buy now.

Just last week I saw bundles of pickles and jams and marmalades in the clearance section most of which were 3 to 6 months out of date. There was one lady who was emptying the shelves. To each their own I guess. For 30p a jar, you can't really go wrong especially if you have a strong immune system.

There's loads of shops and supermarkets that sell stuff that is almost out of date, think Heron Foods, Quality Save, Home Bargains. I will happily buy from there especially bottles of water and juice that are 75% off. I know Fulton Foods sell a lot of stuff which is out of date but they have huge SEL's telling the buyer of this.

Jam past its best before is not going to affect your immune system. :wall::wall:
At worst, it might taste different/have a different texture. Your immune system does not come into it!

Some people's misconceptions about food labelling sometimes astounds me.

27 June? 27 June? Our bread is always kept in the fridge and this morning finished the last few slices of a loaf BB 20 June, and it had no mould. Next loaf to use has BB 27 June.

You must buy whiter than white full of preservatives and chemicals sliced bread then. Bread I buy has gone solid after a week at the outside.

But who is going to buy gherkins 6 months past their BB date?
Let Asda worry about that, there's enough food waste, better than them binning them in January
