That doesn't mean Asda should not offer them for those that will buy them.
Why were you so concerned ?0 -

Which is ridiculous for tinned and jarred food. What do you think happened before they started putting dates on tins and jars?
The whole made-up idea of dates on these types of foods creates unnecessary food waste. Hopefully people with a little common sense will buy them rather than react hysterically and expect Asda to bin them for no reason.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
ScarletMarble wrote: »But who is going to buy gherkins 6 months past their BB date?
I work overseas and an awful lot of food I buy is well past its best buy date.
The record for something I have bought is a jar of Marmite (purchased in March this year) which had a BBE date of May 2015 so it was almost 4 years past this date.
I've had Marmite on toast many times since and I'm still alive to tell the tale.0 -
And who can tell whether a gherkin has gone off anyway?
They go a bit soft and lose their crunch. I used the last two from an out of date, opened jar earlier this month and they were definitely softer, but as they were being finely chopped for a German beetroot salad (yum!) all was good.0 -
I'm not a fan of eating things past their "best before" date but I've done it on occasion.
Bread mainly, the remains of the loaf in my cupboard says 27th June at the moment but I had toast this morning because it passed the visual test of having no mould on it.
A few months is a bit more of a deal, but then again I regularly hear of people who have no problem consuming said items and I can only conclude that there's probably nothing wrong with them!0 -

27 June? 27 June? Our bread is always kept in the fridge and this morning finished the last few slices of a loaf BB 20 June, and it had no mould. Next loaf to use has BB 27 June.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Maybe that’s your specific area, I thought they were only ever online, But online they are thriving so must be doing something right. It’s about time best before dates were scrapped, especially for things like gherkins that have vinegar in them so will never go off if unopened.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. IF you understand Asda are not breaking any laws and know that some people will buy them, why did you bring it to their attention ..not once but three times0
