Credit score and mortgage

Options
I'm trying to get my first morgage, but have run into trouble at the first fence because of a default on my credit score, I tried to move on an see if a co-ownership might be an option thinking they might give me better chance, but they wouldn't help because of the default, I'm now waiting on an online morgage advicer to try and find a broker that will look at the default account with a bit of tolerance and over look the default.

So for me the credit score really means a lot.

No, it doesn't mean anything for you. Or anyone else.

It's the default which is your problem, not the pretend score.

I believe my default account could have been avoid if the company involved had have been more honest or not lied to myself before placing the default, but it looks like the big boys can place these defaults on anyones credit reports without any fear of being held to account for such actions.

    No, they can't.

But if you give some details, we may be able to advise.

I signed up with the credit score company and send them a message about this (you might get a better idea from my every first post on this forum) that was yesterday but I have had no updates, in the meantime I've phoned the company again and they still mainteen my account is good, very confusing
  • Who is the company?

What is the apparent issue that’s caused the default?

Is the default showing on all 3 of your credit files?

The company is a broadband provider, they couldn't fix a fault with my broadband and in the end I had to sign up with another one, they did tell me it was their fault and I had no outstanding debt with them, but once I was turned down for a morgage I contacted them again and they still say my account was clear, but I joined a credit report company (if that is the right word) and they have placed a £298 default I knew nothing about on my credit account.

Not sure what you mean about 3 credit files, sorry

    Update:

Went back into CR and clicked on the default and this opened up:

The lender has reported that the account has been included in a debt-management programme (for example, one organised by a citizens advice bureau, National Debtline or the Consumer Credit Counselling Service)
  • Contact the provider and ask them to remove the default and charges then.

I’m assuming you have this agreement on writing?

Having had terrible problems with access to my broadband on and off near every night, the whole thing can to the crunch went the boardband went off completly, and after being given a time period for someone to come out and fix the problem, which no-one showed up, and after allowing a few extra days and still no show I contacted them again, I was shocked to be told by a member of their staff that I had to arrange for a BT Openreach engineer to come out (which might have a small fee attached) and try to get the problem fixed, only to continue on to say "they (BT OR) don't seem to be doing their job right for our company lately in some areas", in the end I had to move to a new provider, who done all the dealings with them during the switch. Once my broadband was up and running again I phoned POST OFFICE TELECOMS SERVICE and explained to them, I beleived they broke their side of the agreement by not living up to their promiss to have the problem looked at in the time frame I was given, the person on the other end did apologise for their mistake and assured me my account was closed without any other payments owing, great.

But sadly that only lasted a few months as I have now been turned down by a morgage broker because of a default account on my credit score, guess who.

Yes once again this company has been two faced, they added a £298 fee for broken contract.

Ever since his company told over my account without my say, they have went out of their way to make live hell for me and my family.

I phone them yesterday and once again I was told my account is clear ?

Anyone any ideas what next I can do to right this wrong in my credit ratings

    Thanks in advance

It looks like the OP spat the dummy out and changed provider mid contract instead of sorting it out with the PO.

Have you requested a copy of this recording? Did you request that it be put in writing that your account was closed and to be sent the final bill?

Sounds like you need to get hold of that phone call transcript and then write a letter to them requesting that they remove the default based on the information you were told.

So are you saying when you called them the operator told you that you had no early termination charges outstanding? Not only that, plus you also never received this letter from them as they have stated?

I imagine when you called them yesterday because your account has been passed to debt collectors, it is no longer on their system or is marked as clear, as the debt has been sold.

There are 3 credit reference agencies in the UK. The free versions to check your credit files are below:

    TransUnion (formerly Call Credit): https://www.creditkarma.co.uk

Out of interest, how many months remaining on the PO broadband contract did you have left?

First of all I didn't start this thread, it seems to have split from another thread I was repling to involving what credit points mean, so my last line in the first post is a bit confusing if reading on this thread, but my thanks goes out the the person who did so.

Back to the main point of this debate:

I did not break any contract, but it is an interesting point, I signed up with another company (not sure if it allowed to mention names in this part of the forum) they closed and handed my contract over to this company without my consent, I only found out when I tried to contact the first company when the problems started to happen, and even then I had to google my bank statement to find out who the second company was.

Back to the main point, my internet packed in, I reported the problem to the company and between us we tried to fix the problem with everything (including toothpick) but nothing worked, yet the phone line was working, so in the end the member of staff and everyone else in the chain trying to help give up, and they desided to send someone to my house to find the fault, a date (timeline) was given to myself for the work to be carried out, but no-one showed up, so I phoned them again to see what was going on, and that is when I was told to contact Openreach and try to get the problem fixed and that was that, so I had to get my internet back up and running, so yes I did contact a new provider and got back online, but I did keep in touch with the company in question and was assured there would be no charges involved
