I've now worked out a timeline of events, but first I'd like to thank everyone for their help so far, that goes to the member who opened this thread for me, the member who posted my reply from another thread (which helped try to explain my problem) and everyone else involved (still not to sure about the rules so I didn't want to use usernames in my thanks)

    Timeline

Signed a contract (house to house sales rep) in June 2014 with NEW CALL TELECOM.

First deposit NEW CALL TELECOM (fual-broadband) 18/July/2014 (contract £21.12) source = bank statement

Last payment 19/July/2017 (£20.69) source = bank statement

On the 23/Aug/2017 a direct debit of £34.08 was taken from my account by PO LTD TELECOMS. source = bank statement

Having seached and read another members post at this forum it seems they assumed I was signing up with them at a higher rate contract.

A Direct Debit of £36.28 to PO LTD TELECOMS was taken from my account on 21/Sept/2018 (last payment) source = bank statement

During this time the broadband was not working and no one ever showed up to fix the problem so a few weeks later, I got in touch with Plusnet and explained the problem with them, they offered me a contract, which I accepted, they contacted the PO a few weeks later and switched over, only then I was able to get back online the next month.

First payment was done over the phone to Plusnet in 21/Oct/2018 and once every month thereafter.

As I've stated before I phoned the PO to complain and they apologised for the whole thing and I was assured I had no outstanding bills.

No contract statements or bills from anyone involved were ever send to my home address or email box.
  • There’s a difference between outstanding bills (I.e bills in arrears) and charges going forward for terminating the contract with them.

This is probably where the confusion lies.

Update: Just off the phone to PO

They give me a contact number for the company the debt (£289) was handed over too, during ouR conversion I explained my part of the story about the problem about the broadband not working while landland did, he checked back the date I last spoke to their company over this matter, 18/Sept/2018, and I switched provider, I switch provider thereafter so they charged the fee for that.

I explained about no engineer was ever send out during the time period in question and his reply was "it might have took longer to fix the problem than stated, but they would have got round to it sometime if I had remained a customer with them".

So it seems they want customers to pay for a service that is not working (for almost a month in my case) until they get round to it, no matter how long thiis might take.

I ask if it was possible to get a recoding of todays and any other phones over this matter, and he give me a website where I can get help on this matter.

I'd pay the other company and hopefully the "Default account" will be removed from credit score after a year.

    Thanks again

Update: Full amount paid to debt company by phone.

Just a small problem the credit score shows "Default of £289.00" the full amount had pennies added , so after a few on holds the person on the other end accepted full payment (extra pennies)
  • Yes you do still have to pay for a service still even when it’s not working and you would have been refunded for the charges during the outage.

By paying it though you’ve in essence admitted that the error lies with you and you were responsible for it (which technically you were).

The defaulted account will be removed from your credit file 6 years from the date the default was applied.

Ignore your “score” as it’s not a real thing

Pay what company to remove the default from your files? That does not sound 'kosher' to me...

Yes I had to pay the company to clear the debt to lift my poor credit rating, the morgage learner couldn't agree the morgage because of the poor rating.

So it looks like I should have sat for god knows how long and done without broadband to avoid getting into the mess.

The company (debt agent) stated the "default account" will show paid in full on my credit report.

They don't report anything to the CR, it's up to the PO to send is info.

He is sending me a full copy of the paid in full letter to also send to the CR.

I'll get in touch with PO for the the info on this case and take it from there.

As the last bill was taken from my account after this all started and I had no internet/broadband for over a month, I'll need them to forward these periods to see if they did charge me for internet/broadband during that time period, and not just the phone I was still able to use until switch over.

    Once again thanks.
  • Your credit rating has nothing to do with your mortgage rejection.

The collection agency should contact PO to advise them it’s been paid not you.

The defaulted account will be removed from your file 6 years from the date of default.

Speak to a broker who handles adverse credit files if you still want a mortgage.

The morgage learner could not give me the full amount after he did the check, I then tried co-ownership (Belfast) and their rep opened their website and pointed to this part of the agreement:

"We use Ex...... to review your credit history and to help us make the decision on the credit worthiness of your application. We will look at your debt levels and how you are managing your debt.

Your credit report is a record of your financial history and will include records of payments on loans and credit cards and any other financial commitments. You should get a copy of your credit report before applying and check it.

Things that will affect your credit assessment include, but are not limited to:

The level of credit commitments that you have
    Any late/missed payments
    Any defaults
    "

I've remove the last six letters from the CR (in bold)and also the reason they couldn't proceed the application (in bold)

Why? There are 3 CRA's and only one of them begins with Ex. And the reasons for the decline appear to be generic reasons for declines, lenders don't tell you the specific reason anyway.
  • Removing information really doesn’t help people help you here.

It took nigh-on 2 pages to get the names of the broadband providers out of you
