What small DFW things will you do w/c 24th June?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Morning all :hello: happy Monday peeps. Katy hope you LO is feeling better. I know it's hard, but don't stress about the spends in these situations, it really is unavoidable and your priority needs to be with your son.

    My list for today:
    Wfh :j
    Check banking
    Check surveys, did a £5 pr0lific one yesterday :D
    Make packed lunch for small
    Try and get some stains off sofa, it's protected so should be easy (famous last words)
    Go for a run
    Something out of freezer for tea

    Have a good Monday all. Purps.
  • Morning purps thanks for starting the thread. I've overslept and need to be in the other office at the other side of the county :eek: luckily I can just throw on some clothes and go....

    As I'm working there won't be much of much today:

    * all meals form stores
    * get ready quick
    * water greenhouse plants
    * pot on some plants tonight - must do this!
    * go through cc statement - work out what is from what pot
    * onepoll
    * read free book

    Ok that will do!

    Morning all,
    I'd like a week of achievements this week, so am hoping to get off to a good start today. Haven't written my job list yet, but it will defo include some money saving tasks:
    *Two baths from one lot of hot water.
    *Check greenhouse veggies in case they need water.
    *Update grocery budget & pay money across to 'Just for points' credit card.
    *One small essential item to order online. I would much prefer to source from a local shop, but the 20% discount online creates too big a price differential on this occasion.
    *Leftover lentil roast for tonight's meal.
    *Cut more salad from the garden.
    *Mix up a sourdough loaf.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Change bed linen & load into washer ready to coincide a cheaper overnight wash with dry pegging-out weather.
    *Decided not to cycle into town. As I'm at the end of this month's personal spends, the only way I can finance this is to spend - erroneously - from other budget pots, & that's not going to happen.
    *Leftovers for my lunch.
    *Pack bag of library returns.
    I want to whizz through all this so that I have some leisure time as I want to source some pics & type up a big project.
    Shall feed cat & crack on.
    Have a good start to the week, all.

    Happy Monday everyone. Thanks purps for starting the thread.

    First day back at w*rk after two weeks off. Still have quite a chesty cough, but the rest of my cold and flu has gone, thankfully.

    Had my stepmother down at the weekend, and had a good session of tackling the gardens. Hopefully will get a bit of rain today. Not too much, just enough to save me having to water the plants.

    DS2 starts a new job today, so hopefully that goes ok.

    Fairly run of the mill stuff today:
    Checked online banking and updated spreadsheet
    Made sandwiches for dinner
    Tea will be leftovers from the weekend
    Read free newspaper on the train
    Free tea/coffee/water at work
    Charge phones at work
    Huge pile of ironing to tackle this evening

    Won't quite be a NSD, as I used the last of the sugar in DS2's coffee this morning, so will need to get some more, but I should be ok for everything else.
    Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

    PurpleFairy Thank you for starting this weeks thread.

    Things are a bit up in the air for today, I will start my list and hopefully add to it.

    Todays list:
    PAD
    Record spending
    Make bread
    Take snacks and drinks with us to training

    I have been making great progress with my project to tackle the volume of emails I have and then to file in an easy to retrieve way any emails I keep. For 5 out of 6 accounts I am on top of everything that comes in. I want to make a few small tweaks so I can deal with things even quicker. Various emails I've unsubscribed from. I am making great strides through the years of back log. I'm not going to tackle the 6th account apart from the basics, it's the account I use for family and friends, until I'm on top of the other accounts.

    Afternoon all,

    Thanks PF for this weeks thread.

    Todays list
    * usual breakfasts - ds1 & I had ys bread/scrambled eggs - ds2 to free school breakfast club
    * gym session done and water bottle refilled twice there.
    * washed a load on the quick 30 degree wash and hung out on the line - no breeze and a weird kind of day out there but I'm hopeful it will dry!
    * ironed last Fridays washing and the clothes that ds2 had taken but not worn on his trip.
    * checked banking/updated spreadsheet and added this weeks mileage too
    * gave my parents back their suitcase plus 2 very brown bananas as they love them like that but it would have to go into a banana loaf for me to eat them and then I'd eat too much! I do love banana loaf!

    Still to do
    * make families lunches for tomorrow done
    * write a shopping list for tomorrow (had planned on going towards the end of the week but ds1 needs something for a cookery lesson before then) list made, just remembered that I haven't written on the ingredients ds1 needs - will have to use google translate for one of them as its all in Welsh, done it was strawberries.
    * a use it up tea, will all have something different out of the fridge on jacket potatoes done
    * replace gripper on 2nd badminton racket (freebie from my mum) done
    * check with ds1 that his spreadsheet is up to date done
    * keep an eye on electricals as our usage was up in this last month and I can't really think why...

    Thats about it. Take care all.

    also …
    Found a tub of plain greek yogurt bought for dh (that only he likes) that I've just realised is un-opened and bbe 07/06/19 - its past the taste and smell test so I've mixed it with the last bit of honey from a jar, mixed in frozen summer berries and frozen in muffin cases as per a recipe I'd seen in the eat well for less cook book. It looks nice, hopefully it'll taste nice. I hate food waste so I'm pleased to have made something out of this that hopefully me and the boys will enjoy too.

    Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Hi gang :wave:

    Good to hear what you're all up to.

    Katyann - hope your wee boy is on the mend xx

    I've decided to have a day at home with baba today - rotten weather and the house looks like a bomb has hit again. It's as though I have a 7 week old baby! :rotfl:

    Here's me:
    - Online shop - defo saves me money as I can keep track easier as I go and easier to see price per kg etc as I shop :cool:
    - Let Chip do its thing... Have saved loads with Chip and not really noticed. Does anyone want a referral? I'll send you a code if so and we both get an extra 1% interest :Dhttps://www.moneysavingexpert.com/team-blog/2016/12/get-up-to-5-interest-with-the-app-that-automates-your-saving/
    - Reusable nappies and wipes :cool:
    - Bought baby a play mat from FB marketplace - £5 rather than £40 and when I got it home there was a mobile in there too - result! :T
    - Not using tumble dryer :naughty:
    - Using up fruit and veg before it goes off! :naughty:
    - Apple and carrot smoothie with bendy carrots :cool:
    - Doing something with cauliflower tonight even though OH doesn't really like it :think:

    Catch up on t'other side

    Hi June Jollies,

    I've been away in the real world. I blinked and two weeks have gone by without posting! Thanks for the starter PF.

    Have spent most of my spare time this week getting two new mobile phones DFW-style. We've had ours for three and a half years and they are really on their last legs.

    * My employer gave me a discount code for 5% off the monthly cost.

    * Bought through TopCashBack so should get a couple of quid from that.

    * Will get £30 cashback of each phone direct from Samsung who were doing a deal.

    * Sold two old phones on eBay for £40. We always keep the boxes and cheap accessories which adds a wee bit of value to them. Better to sell them while they still work than wait for them to break at which point they'll be worth less.

    * Our new phones are inexpensive.

    * Installed lots of free Apps.

    * New phones have a different socket to old phones rendering our two powerbank chargers inoperative. Bought adapters from eBay to convert Micro USB female-USB C male for a couple of pounds. This was cheaper than buying two new powerbank chargers.

    * New phones came with charging cables too short for purpose. Bought long cables on eBay.

    * Existing headphones fit new phones.

    * Ordered a new easy-to-grip case to lessen the liklihood of me dropping my phone. I find naked phones slippery.

    Quite proud of these economies which mean that we have got these new phones for next to nothing. :A

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Five:

    * Check online banking. Done.

    * Continue my Challenge 500 miles challenge to travel 500 miles for free before the end of 2019: walking, hiking, climbing, cycling, running and swimming. I'm up to 239/500. Done. Lovely 3 mile stroll along the prom as the skies darken.

    * Clear out In Tray. Done.

    * Clear out wallet. Done.

    * Clear emails. Done.

    * Eat batch-booked soup. Done.

    * DW is dissatisfied with her cheap laptop she takes travelling. Buy different one, sell old one on eBay. Done.

    Morning frugal pals :hello:

    Currently sat here drinking coffee listening to the rain which is really quite relaxing. Well apart from the cat staring at me. We're in a Mexican standoff. He's due to go to go to the vets again this morning so can't have any breakfast as they are going to have to give an anaesthetic. He's not impressed :rotfl:

    My list for today:
    Check banking
    Check surveys
    Do some stretching
    Quick shower, leave hair to dry
    Something from freezer for tea
    Update food spends, pleased to see how much the monthly average has come down since last year. Still could do more, but very pleased with progress
    Check pots, the inside ones may need watering but outside should be fine

    Have a good day all Purps.
