I've been flying on holiday for 35+ years and never considered plane food to be decent.
With or without a newspaper or sweet.

I once flew from Australia and decided it was preferable not to eat for the duration of the flight rather than eat the slop the airline tried to feed me.

Or because lots of people like most of this forum put up with bad service it seems?

Your view of bad service and my view of bad service are miles apart.
    They really are.
In fact, I'd guess that your (and your Father's) view of bad service are very different to 'most of this forum'.

I do enjoy meals coming around long haul, it breaks the flight up.

    That's totally different.
I'm not sure the OP or his Father know what 'long haul' is.

Local restaurants often sell packed lunches to take to the airport.
But you won’t starve on a European flight.

I do enjoy meals coming around long haul, it breaks the flight up.

I don’t enjoy meals coming round on long haul, I managed a 10 hour flight recently without eating any of it

Can I just say, I used to like airline food :)

Flew to Turkey one year, 8am flight, First Choice as it was then, Bucks fizz, lovely cooked breakfast, yoghurt, coffee - was lovely. And we got a mint on approach to landing :)

Chicken stew or something on the flight back, was just as nice

Best meal was on a Turkish Airline flight. Only 30 of us on that one, we all had a row each. Soft drinks FOC throughout the duration and the meal was cold, salads, cheeses, olives, breads

Yep, Im one of those sad people who liked airline food, but I soon dumped them when they started charging seperately and picked up a meal deal same as everyone else :)

And that is why travel agents are going bust - because the customer is no longer first but airlines profits are.

In what universe does a plane change make it about profit when the plane was safety recalled and a new plane had to be chartered .
Travel agents are going bust because people want to pay low fares and do so online to save a fiver.

Oh and saying no because a customer is demanding something impossible e.g. "I want my old flight back" isn't rudeness it's reality.

I think the first priority is getting their passengers on to a plane that doesnt have a recent history of crashing.

If your attitude towards the employees of TUI was anything like your attitude on here, they should have rightly told you to sod off and get over it.

According to my brother Turkish airlines are still good and wipes the floor with everyone else (they use I think it's EDI IST several times a year )
Our flight to FLL in September will be a novelty as it's BA rather than Norwegian so includes food (we never check bags) I suspect I'll still raid M&S and also eat in the lounge before boarding anyway though......not sure what the AA offerings will be like flying home but plenty of food choices to bring on board at MIA.
