One thing is true, you did feel like a valued customer more back in the day.
Now you're just herded through airports and onto planes.
Cheap, cheaper, cheapest has won the day, especially for short haul.
I know it was all factored in the price, but to get a newspaper, sweet and a decent meal included did used to be "part of the holiday", now flights are the "grin and bare it" part of the holiday IMO.
(Still think OP's dad is barking mad though!! Times have moved on and if you don't like it, vote with your feet!!)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

The bit I highlighted puzzled me - what bit of the airport experience other than check in is up to the tour operators? Not the operators fault that security is stringent, or you have to walk through duty free after security, or you have to pay £5 for a pint.0

 True.
And I'm not sure what era Sea Shell's 'back in the day' is...but maybe travellers 'back in the day' were more valued because there weren't so many of them.
I've been flying on holiday for 35+ years and never considered plane food to be decent.
With or without a newspaper or sweet.0

We've been to 'small airports in Greece' that have tavernas within walking distance of the terminal.
Failing that, we eat before we get to the airport.
But we don't feel the need to eat every couple of hours so lack of choice at an airport isn't an issue for us.
Is it for you and your Father?0

I get free airport lounge access so eat/ drink there before boarding. Also pick up bottled water/ Pringles and juice from the lounge to take on-board. Haven't had a decent airline meal in at least 15 years.0

Fly Aegean Air. You got a hot meal and drinks included in the fare.
Plus that's rubbish about Athens airport - They have plenty of food places, bars and resturants. Have you actaully ever been there?0

Local restaurants often sell packed lunches to take to the airport.
But you won’t starve on a European flight.
I do enjoy meals coming around long haul, it breaks the flight up.0
