  • Packages sent through couriers are usually declared through customs and I believe it normal to pay duty. I took the big risk of having my console sent by standard post because of that. I received my dodgy console. I did check the web before purchasing mine in sept and was mostly positive at that time. Even though bought in Hong Kong trading standards will advise you on what you should do to get money back. Good Luck
  • Hi Gullible (maybe I should adopt your username?!)

Thanks for your post. Yes, I will contact Trading Standards - I don't hold out much hope from the email gadget asia sent promising refunds to those who don't receive a package - I can't even raise an email response from them at mo, so can't even get into a dialogue with them about it.

I'm really surprised there aren't more recent posts on Gadget Asia... the Fed Ex person I spoke to said big shipments had been seized and proved to be counterfeit, and that they'd had loads of people contacting them about their purchases. However he also said that there were other company names and implied that gadget asia were also operating under another name - so maybe I'm on the wrong thread!

Anyway, many thanks for your advice. If anyone else knows any more, or if I am totally missing the point (quite possible as this is all completely new to me!) please do post.

Spoke to customs yesterday. They have an email from Gadget Asia stating that they have used a different supplier recently and were unaware that the items were not genuine. Customs have an email from Gadget Asia stating that they will refund the money to customers that can prove that their items have been seized.

To the person that asked why were we not told about this company. Customs informed me that they did let people know via the news paper earlier on this month or last month can't remember the exact date. I was confused as they were talking about Nintendo Ds's going for £40 and dodgy power adaptors. Told customs that I did not pay £40 but £145. Customs told me that on my invoice it states £40.

Customs have advised me to keep trying to get your money back from the company. I emailed them again today. They have been responding to my emails. You have to use the ticket system. I will give them a few more days to take action then I will be contacting my credit card company for the refund. I have taken this route as the credit card company will most likely want proof that I have tried to get my money back from Gadget Asia first.

Gadget Asia have admitted that the items are not genuine to customs so that gives me some hope that I will get a refund as if they were that dodgy wouldnt they not have closed the site and why speak to customs. I hope and pray that this can be resolved without much hassle.

This is going out to everyone else that is in the same situation. If you don't post we can't help each other to get our money back.

    I will keep you posted.
  • I took an interest in this thread having gone through the same heart ache last year. I bought my son a red and black DS with 20 odd games and thoought I was getting the full games (how silly I was!). Got great advise on the forum from Phanco and Jockess 1 (these guys are very fair in their assessment of the DS cards and in no way promote the downloading of fake software). The card was okay it failed and they replaced it. The DS which is now a year old has been perfect and there are no signs of it being counterfeit

It appears now that there could be a serious problem with Gadget Asia as their site now does not include any DS or Wii consoles. There is no explanation in their news section so it may be that they have been found out or run out just before Christmas. The fact that people have mentioned they are attempting to charge people for repairs on new items suggests to me that maybe the credit crunch is biting them hard and people would do well to avoid them now even if they have had good service previously.

Incidently how do find out if the DS is counterfeit?
  • Please see below copy of email sent by Gadget Asia explaining how you 'prove' your package. Hope this helps. Fingers crossed for you.Dear customer,You're receiving this email because you have placed an order with us from Dec 6 to Dec 12 2008, and there is an important notice regarding this order.Thank you for your recent purchase with Gadget-Asia. We understand the most recent discussion aboutcounterfeit Nintnedo DS Lite systems may have made you worried. The Customs are taking tight controls for all shipments, once they suspect to be counterfeit, they may hold the package and ask for future updates. Please look at the following PDF file in which youwill find ways to prove your package.http://download.gadget-asia.com/Korea-DSLite-Black.pdf1. You can find the user manual inside the packing box, there will be a serial number onthe manual which match with the serial number at the back of the console.2. There is a Certificate inside the packing box of the adapter (if you have purchased one). It passes with all UKstandards to ensure safety use.Your package which may be on hold should contain the same stuff as the photo shows.Customers who fail to receive their package will receive a 100% full refund.

  • Hi again

Another update from me as I have just had a response from the 'ticket' I posted with Gaget Asia a couple of days ago. They ask that I contact Fed Ex to confirm parcel status (already done this), and that if this item is seized, I will receive a letter from Customs which I need to send them a copy of, via a reply to the ticket.

Hadn't exactly planned for this in the pre-Xmas rush, but hey...

Good luck to anyone else in this position - let's keep each other informed.

See we really are helpful chaps at times.

Some of the issues which people seem to be ignoring are, the vast majority of packages I examined contained dodgy plugs or they contained R4DS' DSTT's or dvds full of games, all of which are illegal also, therefore even if the DS was genuine, which by the way a handfull were found to be, the item would still be seized due to the dstt etc being with the package, add to that the fact that the items are miss declared as "gift" "no commercial value" $45 etc etc then importers are pretty much up poop creek without a paddle to start with.

I wish you all the best with trying to get your money back however this does prove one point, if something does appear to be to good to be true, ie ds and 40 games for £140'ish, then it probably is.

    all the best

Interesting thread. I have told my friend about it so she can come on and have a read herself and hopefully pick up and impart some useful information.

  • Hi the Bear

I read your reply to Gemini with interest. Obviously the 'too good to be true' idea is worth bearing in mind - however the price I paid for the nintendo was the same as Argos - the only reason I gought from gadget Asia was that Argos, plus other well-known stores in the UK had all sold out. I didn't get any games or a plug - just the Nintendo - so it must have been the console itself that was counterfeit. Hopefully there aren't too many other disappointed and frustrated people like me.

It's certainly put me off buying anything on-line that comes from abroad, anyway (1st and last time!!!)

    All the best.
